Hi there.
Here's some stuff that helps the Popjustice messageboard work properly. Give it a bit of a read and get on with posting some stuff.
1. Writing posts
a. No need to asterisk out your swear words.
b. Don't use textspeak. This includes acronyms for 'oh my god' and 'laugh out loud', as well as unfinished and deliberately mis-spelt words, as well as ludicrous over-use of exclamation marks. By the same token, please don't shorten song or album titles - for example, no WWTNS when 'What Will The Neighbours Say?' is what you mean.
c. We've disabled the smileys on this board. Please don't try to use the smileys, and please don't try to get this by inventing smileys of your own.
d. Don't ruin threads by dragging them into chats between two people. You can do that using the private message feature.
e. If you don't have anything to add to a thread, don't add anything to the thread. (Posts consisting of nothing more than / nothing much more than 'I agree!', 'I like it!', 'Nods in agreement' or the like will be deleted.)
f. If you're starting a thread, make sure the thread title provides a decent description of what your post is about. (A post called 'McFly', for example, should be more like 'McFly aren't as good as Busted', or vice versa.
2. About your account
a. Text-only signatures are best - they help the pages load more quickly for users on slow connections. If you feel you need to include a banner (and we'd rather you didn't), please make sure it's no bigger than a standard banner ad - 60 pixels tall and 468 wide.
b. Avatars are great, but animated GIFs are best avoided, just to help those on slower connections. If you do feel the need please try to keep the image's size below 20k.
3. Legal stuff
a. Don't speculate on popstars' sexuality.
b. Don't directly link to MP3s, Yousendit pages, or anything like that. By all means link to a site hosting music, but do not post anything along the lines of 'If anyone wants an MP3 get in touch' or 'If anyone has an MP3 get in touch'.
c. Don't post pictures from picture agencies like LFI, Getty or Big Pictures.
d. Don't post midweek chart information.
e. Don't copy and paste stories from other sites without crediting the sites and adding something of your own.
4. Reasons you might be banned / your comments might be deleted for no apparent reason
a. If you're only on the board to post about one band or artist, piss off. If you're being a pain in the arse and more than 50% of your posts are about one band or artists, your account will be deleted. We'll also be keeping an eye on people with a particular axe to grind every time an artist or group is mentioned.
b. To help the Popjustice messageboard reflect a) Popjustice.com, b) The attitude and understanding of the vast majority of our users, c) The rules outlined in this post, we'll often delete posts and threads. If your post is deleted, please don't complain or repost an identical message. If you really don't understand why your message or thread has been deleted, send a private message to a moderator.
c. Sometimes posts will also be deleted for reasons we aren't in a position to explain. Please try not to be upset about this.
d. Your account will only be deleted if you don't follow these rules, if you don't follow the general flow of the board, or if you piss off other members of the board. If your account is deleted, the best advice is to ask yourself why this has happened and, if you want, to sign up again using a different username so that nobody will know what a twat you've been in the past. Whether you make a go of things this time round is up to you.
5. Jerry's final thought
Hopefully these rules don't seem too ridiculous. Most people are here on the Popjustice messageboard because it's unlike any other pop messageboard, and these rules are here so that it all works properly.
Thanks,
PJ
