..was the shizzle basically.
alot of music and good shows like Greatest Hits, Hit List UK, Euro Top 20 ( which was an excellent source for Euro-dance hits of the mid-90s ), MTV Most Wanted, Headbangers Ball, YO! Raps etc
VJ's like Eden with broken English standing infront of crazy on-screen graphics.
any memories?!

I really miss the fact there used to be a single european MTV, which meant you used to get to occasionally hear music from all over Europe, including in different languages - it really opened my eyes to the fact there was more to life than Anglo-American music.
It was that period that introduced me to Mylene Farmer and her stunning videos.
Die Fantastichen Vier's Die Da?! (rather cheesy, I know) and Jovanottis' Penso Positivo stand out from that period as non-English language songs that used to get quite heavy rotation.

Most Wanted with Ray Cokes, it was on every week night. The live acts were always big names.

You've hit the nail on the head - that was what I loved about MTV back then. You could hear music from other countries in different languages and there were some great songs - those 2 you mention are ones that I remember as well. Most Wanted had was a great show and Ray never bowed to the guests in the way that they do on MTV now. He was funny and irreverant which made for a great show. Yo Raps was a great show and in that 30 mins you heard more decent rap than you will ever hear on MTV Base which pumps out so much chart American R&B/hip hop but very little new / innovative stuff. I would have thought that the splitting of the music genres into different channels would have worked out better but they all seem so bland compared to the old MTV which had character and a personality. The schedueling was good so that you knew what shows were on and when. With the new channels it's just music back to back without any structure or as with MTV, back to back Pimp My RIde, or Ashlee or Newlyweds which has turned the station into wallpaper. VH1 seems to play the same tunes by the same bands over and over again. You'd think that someone might do something a bit innovative like get the Guinness Book of Hit Singles and play some tunes that were relatively big back then but you that never hear now. There were more bands in the 80s than Duran Duran and Culture Club! Is there still a European-wide MTV or has it all been segmented into UK & Ireland, Germen and French channels.

Is there still a European-wide MTV or has it all been segmented into UK & Ireland, Germen and French channels. They now have: MTV UK & Ireland MTV Italia MTV Deutchland (Germany, but also the other German speaking countries) MTV France (France, but also French speaking Belgium) MTV Espana MTV NL (Holland, but also Dutch speaking Belgium) MTV Poland MTV Nordic (Scandinavia & co.) MTV European (For all countries that don't have their own version, so i guess that one is pretty much like the old MTV Europe)

MTV Select at 4pm in the days before The Box and all the shite about now was absolute essential viewing. I seem to recall with great fondness a Pet Shop Boys day that MTV Europe did in either 92 or 93..

MTV was so much better before thay spilt all the music content across the genre channel and filled up all the schedules with a load of US pap. Up for it live was always a favourite of mine...

I remember when they actually played videos on MTV. That seems so novel now.

Do you remember Chris Moyles and Donna Air having digs at each other on air. Chris on his radio show getting people to go behind her Window and hold up signs, and Donna, well, Donna not sure quite what to do really.

Enrico Silvestrin, gorgeous Italian presenter. He used to have long hair and dye his goatee different colours. I think he went to present at MTV Italy once we'd gone regional and shit.
