I just finished watching this, and I have to say, less convincing lip synching has never been seen. I can understand synching if you've got energetic dance routines, but all she did was walk back and forth slowly across the stage. The layers of sound made her lips even more unconvincing. It just seemed...pathetic? Her vocals weren't necessarily the kind that you couldn't do live, especially considering the dancing.

Oh she was really awful. As you said, you really have to sing that song. She came in late/early so then she had to catch up and stuff. Most people mime and do a dance routine (รข la Girls Aloud) but she just looked bad. But, the song is out tomorrow and about 7million people watch that programme, so anyone performing on there is going to get the best kind of TV promotion possible.

Dr Who wasn't on when Mariah was on as I saw both. But she was shit, she kept dropping her mic too far away from her mouth to even pretend she was miming

I thought it was awful, she's getting on abit now and she's starting to look a bit pikey to be honest. You'd think that to avoid criticism with a range like hers, the least you could do if you were trying to be like every other Britney/Christina/Beyonce is to outdo them vocally or at least learn to mime, she's been doing if for long enough now you'd think that she would know how to do it.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who isn't completely head over heels in love with Mariah Carey...
Not being a big fan, I can't say I've ever heard her speak. Until last night- and she sounded like a bloke!

To be honest, with the amount of live singing she's done, coupled with the type of singing she does, I'd be very surprised if she hasn't considerably damaged her voice over the years.
I bet she's been advised to sing live as little as possible to protect what voice she does have left...........

I can't remember what her performance was like. I was too busy marvelling over how much she looked like a young Gail Platt.

I thought it was HILARIOUS! I loved how she clearly was out of sync with the words and how she had the mike miles away for her voice. Brilliant.

I don't know why, because I haven't liked anything she's done since the 90s, but I really like Mariah Carey. She uses the diva persona to her advantage yet in most of the interviews I've heard with her seems quite down to Earth. And I know it's much cooler to hate her but I do think she's got a great voice.

Jessica I agree she has a great voice, or our memory from the mid 90s tells us to remember that point each time she launches another limp comeback. As I just put to a PJer who just messaged me anxiously defending Ms Carey, I think she is a bit of a one trick pony who is yet to make anything to stun us or impress us again since her early records. She did use the Diva thing very well but now that sort of reputation is 2 a penny in popland and I think it has less of an impression on us as it had before. Her 'diva' joke she made at that awards ceremony last week sank like a lead balloon as people have forgotton about all that with her or more likely they simply dont care. It is a shame but increasingly the impression she is having on myself and many people Ive spoken to about her is that she is as mad as a tree full of sheep. Come on Mariah!

It does piss me off somewhat how someone like her can behave in such a pretentious, self righteous manner and use it to sell singles. She hasn't done anything to change the world, so why should she be able to act like a spoiled brat and earn money from it?
