Sam and Mark will shortly be leaving presenting Top of the Pops saturday to return to singing.
They are going to take their time in finding the 'right' songs rather than the previous crap they released.

So that means TOTP Saturday is going to be instantly 200% more watchable the moment they leave.
Although I hope they don't compensate either by bringing back the Cheeky Girls, or having Freefaller, Rooster or The Noise Next Door on as guests every week.

nooooo! cast them into oblivion! i never want to hear another sam and mark song again. watching them on tv is marginally better, at least they don't stand to murder a beatles song, and you can hide behind the sofa if you've really had enough.

Oh dear. When I heard they were joining TOTPS, I was complaining under a thread on here. Now I actually quite like them. You just get fond of irritating little things, you'know....?
Oh and I hate Sam's new hair. Awful. Too short. And now it's like Mark's. Just worse.

Mike Skinner isn't a fan - today's Daily Mirror says that he got kicked out of the Urban Music Festival by going on a bender and calling Sam & Mark "gay" all day long. Most of the time, during when S&M were filming links for TOTP Saturday.

Most of the time, during when S&M were filming links for TOTP Saturday. Maybe he wasn't being insulting, but was actually suggesting they are a couple. Although, after reading that article, it is nice to see them being called "kids tv presenters" and not "pop flops" or "failed pop duo". Even if they do apparently present Totp2. Scandipop- yes, they are still with 19 and Simon Fuller.

I can't stand Sam and Mark, but Mike Skinner is a fucking knob.
The difference between Fearne and S&M is that Fearne is extremely popular with the show's target audience (i.e. not a load of hysterical gays and girls in their mid-twenties, but the 7 to 15 age group) and that's why she's still got the job. S&M aren't popular with anybody.
I find Fearne extremely annoying to watch, but the kids lover her: she's pretty, down-to-Earth and friendly, and that's what it's all about

S&M aren't popular with anybody. TotpS don't seem to think so- they were only supposed to be there for a few weeks, and got an extended contract.

Lots of pop artists are also managed by 19. 3. Pop shows are successful if they have lots of pop artists appearing on them. Would you like me to draw you a fucking diagram or can you work this one out all by yourself?

I am aware of all of this, but the thing you have failed to recognise is that they werent very succesful pop artists, so they are unlikely to draw a crowd beyond their core fans for that. You've also failed to notice that they aren't on the show as pop stars, but as presenters. It's also worth pointing out that your three facts don't seem to have any kind of running semblance, or have anything to do with your previous argument. Thinking before posting is always a great idea. Are you sure the teacher will let you use the crayons?

I think Maureen is trying to claim that the BBC only employed Sam and Mark in exchange for the promise that 19 would ensure S Club Juniors appeared TOTP Saturday. While this is theoretically possible, and it's well known that management companies strike deals I also think that Maureen is grasping at straws because she wants to slag off Sam and Mark.
I'm not a fan of theirs as pop-stars, but they have done a good job as presenters and work in a style that appeals to the target audience. Maureen must be on another planet if she thinks that the "gays and females over 25" on here are their biggest defencers. If they weren't working out, they wouldn't have had their contracts extended twice.
BTW, I take it everyone here knows that Holly from Ministry of Mahem is/was on 19s books as well? Her sister, Kelly, is also Gareth Gates' PA.

Maureen is grasping at straws because she wants to slag off Sam and Mark. I'm not grasping at anything. This isn't about how shit S&M are. As far as I'm aware Holly Willoughby now has different management, she's with James Grant. What you say about her sister is true; the number of people related to 'artists' working for their management is larger than you'd think.

I suffered TOPS only to see how Sam and Mark worked out as presenters. I had to remember the age group the audience was aimed at. In that respect they did a good job. Like Ferne they acted silly and cracked inane jokes which went down well with the pre teen audience.
Maureen's argument about the 19 connection doesn't hold water. Yes Rachel Stevens and S club did appear often but not as often as Macfly, Busted and sadly NND. The latter are not managed by 19.
Both boys now realise that they were wrongly advised and the crap they released deserved to go no where. I am not sure if they are releasing solo or together . I am hoping solo as two guys together have a hard job getting rid of the cheese tag, add that to the pop idol tag and the stupid name and they are on a no hoper.
I hope that they go solo and Sam releases some pop rock with a band. I have heard rumours but they are just rumours.

All they've said so far is that they are leaving the show next month (last one is 21st May) and are taking a break to work on new material as they don't want to rush into anything and want to take their time. It's still unclear whether the new material (which will be in a more rocky direction) is the duo or solo. Sam mentioned yesterday that he is putting a band together but it won't be for a while yet, again it's unclear whether this is with Mark or his own thing. I hope they are going their seperate ways, I never liked the duo idea. Both are far better off solo

I think they're capable of making some good music together if 19 let them develop their own sound, but no matter how good the music is the whole idea of a male duo is cheesy. They need to go solo or form their own bands if they want to be taken seriously

Holly was in that S Club TV programme from several years ago so that would be the 19 link.
I think they should scrap Fearne as well and get Kim-Lian. She may have the most deluded fashion sense I've ever seen but she makes fantastic pop music (honestly, her album is very good) and has none of Fearne's indie pretentions. Kim-Lian would never be upset at missing Rooster. And she's Dutch - we need more Dutch people on TV. Perhaps she can commute between Holland and continue her show there too!

Kim Lian's album is good: what pop music should be and she appears to be a good presenter, so however much we might want her around it seems a little harsh to wish TOTPS on her.
On the subject of Fearne, the news that she has indie pretensions comes as a shock. Particularly after seeing her contributions to the "100 Best Albums" nonsense last week (made me feel embarassed to have ever watched Channel 4). If she does have any desire to move on from cringe making kids TV, it might be an idea, when she does get in front of a camera in connection with anything else, not to then allow her contribution to be in relation to the film (Saturday Night Fever), rather than the music, and to mainly consist of remarks of a personal nature about an actor.
This could just be the attitudes of largely older male director's and editors towards young females, who, out of the many insightful and musicaly sophisticated comments she made, chose only to use these cotributions. Which means if she does have greater career aspirations, she needs to learn not to conform to stereotypes and keep her trap shut on the subject of John Travolta's arse, at least in public.

It seems she just thinks she's more indie than she is. Or perhaps Rooster and Hanson are the least poppy bands she's allowed to show appreciation for.
