On the Popjustice front page they wrote:
Once upon a time these TV specials gave us Steps doing 'Tragedy', and Dana International doing 'Woman In Love'. In 2005, we get one of the Liberty X girls summarising the career of the most important woman in pop history with "she kissed jesus, he came to life and he was black".
Now forgive me if I'm wrong but was that actually done as a Bee Gees tv special? I thought it was an album of covers for Live Challenge '99, "a charity project close to the Bee Gees' hearts, striving to help homeless children in the north of England.
The album is a corker though, Ultra Nate did How Deep Is Your Love and the lovely Louise did a cracking version of If I Can't Have You. Coincidentally another lovely Louise did a cracking version of Too Much Heaven on the Fame Academy Bee Gees album. (Forgive me if I am wrong about this too).
But I agree about Dana International's Woman In Love.

Steps did 'Tragedy' on 70s Mania. It was a couple of years after they'd released it, though. They were on AbbaMania (the original one) and MotownMania as well.

You're right, the one that kickstarted it all was 'Gotta Get A Message To You', but I think it definitely counts as the first in the '...Mania' run.

Denise Van Outen doing "Gimme Gimme Gimme" anyone?
That was a really well put together track considering it was for one of those shows.
