So the US version is up and going. Arrested Development won the first week, beating Tiffany (who did Kelly Clarkson's 'Breakaway'). Vanilla Ice won the second week with a 'cover' of Destiny Child's 'Survivor'.
Haddaway did 'Toxic'. He crawled around on the floor, leopard style, but was still crap.

This hasn't really worked in the US I've heard on the grapevine. TVgasm particulary slated it.
For one Brit-America reality show that hits it (Hells Kitchen) there seem to be two that miss (Hit Me Baby One More Time, Strictly Come Dancing).

Isn't Strictly Come Dancing AKA Dancing With The Stars doing really well there? Thank god Loverboy didn't win the first week. Speaking of, is Shakey releasing a single or not?

At least Tiffany didn't murder Love Machine again, although that'll be due to Girls Aloud not being big over in the US of A.

Tiffany's Love Machine is how it sounds in heaven.

Shaky's single is out today. I can't decide whether it'd be a better number one than the Crazy Frog or not. Which song did Arrested Development do? I reckon they'd still be quite good.

It would. Slightly. Presumably the studio version of Trouble is better than the live one.

I missed last weeks with Vanilla Ice and whatshisname. And, to be frank, after what you said, I am quite glad! Saw the first one though - I wanted Tiffany to win!

I managed to download see by totally legal means the first episode yesterday. You can tell it's on a budget. Loverboy (who never came within arm's length of the charts here - fact) and A Flock Of Seagulls were rubbish (though I like I Ran), Tiffany was seriously warbly on her Kelly Clarkson song, not a patch on Love Machine, but Arrested Development and CC Penistown (was she on the UK one or not?) were pretty great. It was hilariously autocued though ("The audience's favorite will recieve $34,000 dollars for their favorite charity courtesy of Ameriquest - "proud sponsors of the american dream"!) and Mr Kay was clearly told how to act. Not being patronising by the way, but could Middle America actually understand Vernon's accent? Considering there was once someone from Manchester in Frasier with a cockney accent, they probably thought he was from Mars...

As long as they tell the Americans he's from Liverpool then they'll love him. Hey, the Beatles never dumbed down their accents - they loved them!

Arrested Development performed "Heaven," a US country crossover hit last year for Tex-Mex roots rockers Los Lonely Boys. I think they won because they still tour relentlessly and appeared with their regular live vocalists. Sadly they do not have Dionne Farris anymore (remember her incredible "I Know" single?).
The less said about the Vaniller, the better. Instead of him, the Knack totally deserved to win the second episode, which also featured an amazing WTF moment when the Motels covered Norah Jones' hit inna noo-wave stylee, changing the melody substantially.
Anyway, tonight's show is the one I've been looking forward to most: Cameo, Howard Jones, Wang Chung, Sophie B. Hawkins and IRENE CARA! (Yes, she will be singing "What a Feeling")

Flock Of Seagulls were british too, but they weren't on the UK one. I guess they were just more popular there. I only remember Dance Hall Days.

Wang Chung covered 'Hot In Herrre'.
I was surprised Irene Cara won. Her voice kept cracking and her new singing trio, Hot Cara-mel, was odd.
Howard Jones reprised Dido's 'White Flag'. He did the chorus amazingly well, but he was way too downbeat for the retro-party.
The series is nostalgia at it's worst. The hooks seems to be centered on "music was so much better when I was younger!", "look how silly we used to be! I'm so much smarter now. Irony rules!", "Haha! Those pop stars are all old and ugly now! It doesn't matter if I am too, I'm not on TV! Hurrah!" and "This is hilarious!"

It's interesting you say that, because Episode One (all i've seen so far) seemed weirdly irony-free. Like they were offering up Ladyboy or whatever they were called as gods of popular music. How's it doing in the ratings anyway?
