I hate to put her here but, well, I have to.
I know you're all going to be surprised at me for putting the person that gave us the fucking-fantastic song known as 'Superstar', but let me give my reasons.
We all know that Jamelia has struggled to finally get where she is now, and no doubt, she definitley deserved and deserves it. But now she's there, she has attained something to me known as the Justin Timberlake effect i.e - Bigheadedness.
Everyone is making her out to be the British Beyonce, but this she is not. Beyonce, although boringin her interviews, comes across as humble. Jamelia doesn't. Take the Peter Andre incident. Everyone knew that she should've been no.1, instead of the has been prick. So when she said to MTV she should have got to no.1, she made it out in a jokey way, when really, you knew she was seething.
In her interviews, she always comes across as having a high opinions of herself. Why? She ain't nothing special. Jamelia, for some reason, likes to think that she is an "outspoken singer" much like Xtina, but she isn't. It's embarrassing and unessecary.
Another thing is her performances. Her PITP performance REALLY dissappointed me. She was erratic and shaky. Beverly Knight and Natasha Bedingfield both trounced her in my opinion. Why the fuck did she perform Club Hoppin'!?! What happened to Superstar. She may be tired of it now, but it is the song that we all know her for. It seems to me that she only performed CH, because Superstar, Thank You and SIIABE all seem to have a "poppy" sound to them, wheares CH doesn't. What's wrong with pop love!?!
Jamelia, is indeed a good performer, and has released a good album. However, she is nothing special, and she shouldn't have such a high opinion of herself. On that note, it's about time that this country had a Diva.
I'm sorry Jamelia, but you made me put you here......

I've had a few issues with Jamelia too. I know some people think she's confident of her abilities, which should not be a crime, but I think she is up herself with some of the things she says.
The Peter Andre incident was cringeworthy. Clearly most songs in the chart that week were better than Mysterious Girl, but Thank-you wasn't amazing and in my opinion wasn't worth number one. Superstar - yes, and I think it's a travesty it never hit the top spot, but not Thank-you. I wouldn't have minded her saying she thought she deserved number one more than Peter Andre, but as soon as she said 'the real musos know I deserve it' she lost my respect. How pretentious is that, and if you care about what real musos think then you shouldn't care about the charts.
The other deeply annoying thing she did was on Lorraine Kelly this week. She pretended to be horrified that the papers used the image of her flashing her legs from PITP claiming she chose the dress because it was long. Lorraine Kelly might have pretended to fall for that, but we all know Jamelia has great legs and quite rightly flashes them when she can. She should not pretend she is did not know what would happen.
Her PITP was a bit crap too as the big headline act, but I blame the organisers and press for hyping her up to be like Beyonce.

I don't like Jamelia. Partly because of the down right rude (aforementioned) comment about Peter Andre. I'm not saying she's wrong, Mysterious Girl is rather shite - but 'Thank You' was dire itself and it would have been a travesty if that tosh had gone to number one. And I'd have much rather bought Mysterious Girl and have the proceeds go to charity than buy 'Thank You' and line Jammy's pockets with silver.
I also hate the way the talks about being "real musos" etc, and tries to be a songwriter and acts all street when her biggest hit was a cover version originally sung by the winner of a Pop Idol (I believe it was Denmark??). As a result, I find it incredibly hard to take her seriously when she appears on cd:uk and such like claiming that Pop Idol, Fame Academy and Popstars Colon The Rivals are all talentless (even if it is true) etc etc.
And her second biggest song, SIIABE (sorry, but it's a long title), is now quoted as being 'co-written with' Chris Martin, however I distinctly remember the song being 'written'; by Chris Martin for Jammy before she began the promo. Again, trying to make herself more of a real muso because she writes her own songs yada yada yada....
And also I hate her bigheadedness. And she's friends with Usher.
So in reflection: It's not so much that I disagree with what she's saying, she's just a big headed hypocrite

I know it's been said before but I'd love her better if she didn't appear to love herself so much. I also hate the way she feels the need to put other people down to make herself look good. Take it from me, Jamelia, it doesn't work like that. David Sneddon used to do that all the time and look what happened to him.
She's beautiful and talented but an arse.

She forgot the words to DJ at G.A.Y on Saturday night.
I am unsure what is more mortifying. That I sang them for her, or that I was in G.A.Y.

I've read a few stories about her being rude to fans, particularly at Live & Loud, when she accused a fan of asking for her to autograph CDs so that they could sell them on eBay. Five minutes later, the same fan met Girls Aloud, who were only too happy to sign their CDs. Now THAT is class, Jamelia.

Jamelia does seem to be a bit of a bitch but I don't dislike her...well I can't find it in my heart because most of my friends are Jamelias. They're so like her it's unbelievable, hard faced, bitchy and arrogant but that's only a front they put one 'cause they're really the sweetest people I know and by far the most sensitive but it's like they're scared to show it (especially to people they don't know) and so they put on the 'attitude' act. I'm positive Jamelia is the same because when she isn't being the bitch she does come across an extremely aimiable, intelligent young woman.
Plus she has got better recently.
Though I have heard stories (every black girl in Brum knows someone who knows her) about how vile Jamelia is that could make your toes curl but they're all bullshit I'm sure.

I can't fucking stand 'the way she is.' It's like, I don't know. Something really annoying and childish about her. She always seems to be really overly excited about being in front of a camera and smiley-laughing.

I don't like her either, mainly for the aforementioned 'Peter Andre incident'. This annoyed me for one reason and one reason only and that is because the song that deserves to be number one is the one that sells the most copies. End of. And she seems to have a very inflated sense of self-importance when she really ain't all that special! And she always wears teeny tiny skirts, she's got great legs and all but could try keeping them covered once in a while. Less isn't always more!

I'm going to shock you all.
I like Jamelia. I'm not a fan or anything but seeing Sam Mumba in that hideous dress *which was offered to Charlotte Church first I may add* made me realise how dire UK rnb was for a long time. Jamelia is the only solo female that could crack the US, she has something that Mumba and Javine would KILL for. See It In A Boy's Eyes is really sophisticated pop too.
But we'll see if history will prove us wrong.

See it in a Boys Eyes is an ace song, it's only her attitude that I have a problem with.

I think Jamelia is rather good. Not quite at Beyonce standards yet, but her performances are getting more and more confident, and with it, she really is becoming a cut above the rest.
However, I do agree, her attitude stinks. I think there's a lot of arrogance throughout the rnb world - look at Usher for a prime example.
And I still think Zena is better than Javine, Jamelia et al, and would be huge given half a chance........

Jamelias performances ARE improving, and she is getting more confident, but when she sings live, it's always *bleurgh*
But like I've stated, Jamelia's attitudes stinks. THere is nothing humble about her!

The comment about all black Brummie girls claiming to have "friends of friends" of Jam made me chuckle, it's so true. And NO-ONE has a good word to say about her. Personally, I admire her. She's extremely attractive, talented, and she's only just found her niche, which she's milking very well. But you would think her constant flirtation with the lower echelons of the chart (Money was her third or fourth single, I forget) would instill a bit of humbleness in her. Oh well.

I think she has the perfect attitude for a popstar, to be honest. A bit of modesty wouldn't go amiss, but I think it's great amongst our crop of faux-modest British popstars who just giggle a bit when told how good they are. At least she's interesting.
I would agree if she was shite and thought she was great, but she's not. She is fantastic and she knows it.

I quite like her arrogance - it's what the pop world needs.
We've got nicey nice people, we've got horrible bitches, but we don't have someone in the middle, who can give nice comments, but can also be a bitch, which is a position I think Jamelia is filling very well.
Also, that story about her accusing the fan of selling her CDs at live and loud - it was false. This "fan" wanted attention on the message boards.

Again, trying to make herself more of a real muso because she writes her own songs yada yada yada.... Is it not possible that the story about Chris Martin having written the song alone was simply a case of the media getting the wrong end of the stick, and nothing to do with Jamelia at all? You know, in much the same way that Brandy was long-rumoured to have recorded a song entitled Coldplay about how much she loves Coldplay - whereas the song in question (I Tried) turned out to be no such thing. If you dispute that she helped write the song, we're into another debate about co-writing credits and what we choose to read into them, an issue far bigger than Jamelia. In any case, if she were that strict about writing her own songs, she wouldn't have 4 songs on her album by other people. My opinion of her is much the same as Milk Monitor's, and in her defence I'd say that at least she is equally passionate about the music she does like, unlike those (hello Christina) who don't have a good word to say about anybody.

My daughter thinks she is fantastic because she got out of a relationship where her partner used to beat her up and is now like saying F U u bastard.. Yeh I brought her up well
Personally, I have never forgiven her for slagging off my pop idols. I hate pop stars who think they better than reality tv show stars because they think they found fame the hard way. Oh please

What about pop stars who slag off reality TV show popstars because they are shit? Why does everyone insist on accusing everyone who dislikes a reality TV act of only hating them because they 'made it' on the telly. Maybe it is because they are crap.
I saw the video for 'See It In A Boy's Eyes' this evening. What is that video all about? What has this marching and running around the shower with a towel on your head got to do with seeing things in the retina of a boy?

Jamelia's performances have actually got worse through the years. I remember being blown away by "Money" on Top of the Pops a few years back. She had so much energy and confidence then.
And I actually agree that her arrogance makes her more interesting, but some of the things make her look foolish, like the pretentious "music heads" comment and her slagging off Pop Idol when her biggest hit is a Pop Idol's song.

She was generally dismissive of all reality tv pop acts a while ago, but I think there was a backlash, so she revised it to thinking the successful ones are good. Hence her defence of Evergreen on CDUK, but not Mysterious Girl because it was out the same week as her. She had previously said that the problem with these shows is they showed no musicianship which was an incredibly wanky thing to say for someone who was about to mime her new single and whose big come-back song was an identikit copy of another Pop Idol winner's song.
Money was her finest moment, but I'm a sucker for the big ball-gowns and wig thing. The See It In A Boy's Eyes video is quite brilliant too. A very clever idea and a lot of look, but can't touch, repressed sexuality, unrequited lust and all that.

Personally, anyone who decides to stop listening to someone's music because they've bitched about another artist they listen to is a bit of a cunt. My favourite artists can bitch about whoever the fuck they want, as long as they keep producing good music I don't care.
