I wonder what led them to that conclusion. Having a self-proclaimed 'fattist' for a friend will no doubt have been an immeasurable boost to their self-esteem. Friends pick on each other at school, that's the whole joy of it. The anorexics and bulimics I know have had really terrible things happen to them, and decide the only way to fix it is to control their diet in an odd way. They feel ashamed of what has been done to them by others, so try to get thin in order to be accepted. I've got many ginger-bashing friends, I haven't shaved my hair off...yet. You claim to be opposed to the view of the entertainment industry that women should look 'perfect' and then proceed to profess hatred of those with eating disorders and 'fat' people. As if attitudes like your own play no part in fuelling the problem. Your arguments would be offensive, were they not so hilariously self-contradictory. I think you don't get what I'm trying to get across. I don't blame you, I'm notoriously long-winded. I hate how women are forced to look, and become, unhealthy. Be it of their own accord, by eating the wrong foods in the wrong way, or because of pressure from the media making them want to look like what the projected view of beauty is. At the end of the day, I just want people to be healthy... Back on topic, it's true to say that Tom Chaplin hasn't exactly been blessed in the looks department. But who gives a shit? Let those whose music depends on a demographic of teenage girls worry about that. The guy has an amazing voice, and while Keane may not be the most innovative band in the world, they excel at what they do. I don't think Tom Chaplin's got a great voice at all.

Oh dear god, does my avatar imply that I LIKE Verbalicious?! I thought the sarcasm would be obvious, maybe I need to change it... Maybe you didn't realise that my last post was, indeed sarcasm. I was implying that a lesser clued-up person than myself would probably have brought the Verb into all of this. Cheryl Tweedy has a great voice, in my opinion. I think a lot of the charm comes from the cheeky facial movements, though. Could you imagine Chaplin on a motorbike doing the '3-2-1 vroooom'? Eh...no. Point made.

I think our sarcasm backfired on both of us then.. oops. Still, I was getting fed up with Verbalicious under my name anyway.
True about Tom on the bike. But then Keane don't need gimmicks like that to sell records...

But then Keane don't need gimmicks like that to sell records... Change your avatar to a freaky non-person...that always helps for me. Keane do need gimmicks...Tom tries to sex up the microphone stand as he sings. Tweedy could just sit on a chair and sing. No fancy clothes, motorcycles, dubious-looking hair removal wax, telephone boxes, HardingRobertsWalshCoyle or running around Number 10 needed, and I would still think she's inifinity and one times better than Keane. I think that says more about me than either Keane or the Tweed, though.

Friends pick on each other at school, that's the whole joy of it. Never been a victim of bullying, have you? You aren't making your argument for hating them any more substantial with statements like that. So do a lot of people. But they try and help them by becoming counsellors, or therapists or just generally feeling compassion towards them. Not spewing negativity about them which is only going to make the vicious cycle continue.

Never been a victim of bullying, have you? I'm ginger, Jewish and intelligent. I wear glasses, I'm from a single-parent home and I used to be fat. Work it out for yourself. My comment was clearly sarcastic. You aren't making your argument for hating them any more substantial with statements like that. I think it's decided now that I hate mock-anorexics and bulimics. The people who really have no problem, or won't let people help them. So do a lot of people. But they try and help them by becoming counsellors, or therapists or just generally feeling compassion towards them. Not spewing negativity about them which is only going to make the vicious cycle continue. There's only so much compassion I can give. After having to go through weird pacts, secrets, promises, mindfucks and ruined nights, I'm at the end of my tether, and I need to rant. I think my argument was mainly about the people I know who have eating disorders.

You just contradicted yourself in two sentences. Congratulations, that appears to be a personal best. Then maybe you shouldn't be so general. To hate a whole group of people for the actions of a select few individuals is ridiculous.

Clearly was...I really doubt I strike you as someone who gladly bullies...unless I type thuggish-like. You just contradicted yourself in two sentences. Congratulations, that appears to be a personal best. All of this fucking kerfuffle because I wrongly phrased something. Ok...here it is...re-iterated: I hate people who abuse food, excluding those who medically do it. Thurr. Oh yeah, and I do my bit...I'm giving blood tomorrow. Woop. Back on topic: Tom Chaplin and Keane are overrated.

Should the rest of us grab some popcorn whilst Jen and Sophie fight this one out?
Anyone got the current odds?

Cleary was...I really doubt I strike you as someone who gladly bullies...unless I type thuggish-like. I didn't say that. This "kerfuffle" is merely people disagreeing with you because you are putting across incredibly ignorant opinions on a public board, and then continue to dig yourself further by making, in equal parts bewildering and ridiculous statements. You may have wrongly phrased something- but when that wrongly phrased something becomes a rather offensive point of view, you have to accept that people will want to take it up with you.

It is a kerfuffle when popcorn comes into play, believe me. Also, it resulted in Smudge (who has mysteriously 'left' this thread) being a dickweed. Fair enough. At the end of the day, Tom Chaplin is fugly, the anorexic people I know are wankers, and I'm still working out all of my morals and opinions. It's not like I hold some amazing responsibility...I'm not meant to be a credible, reliable source of anything.

Also, it resulted in Smudge (who has mysteriously 'left' this thread) Or perhaps she just hasn't replied yet? How's that? I won't disagree with that. But I maintain that when you put across opinions on a public board, sometimes people are going to want to disagree with them. So it may be a better idea to get your "morals and ideas" sorted out before you go posting them on a messageboard.

Smudge has replied to other posts very suitably. She commented that I was a shit singer in a shit band, even though she's never even heard me sing.
I thought the fun of sharing opinions was to help form your own and reconsider them, which this thread has done.

To go slightly off topic, Keane are fucking brilliant. They may not be very 'exciting', but their melodies are just breathtaking.
Tom Chaplin also has an amazing voice - anybody that can listen to 'She Has No Time' and disagree is rather obviously deaf.
And as a singer, I find it quite baffling that another singer can't recognise that he's obviously a very gifted singer.........

They may not be very 'exciting', They were bloody hilarious at the Brits. My attention kept being drawn to the one rocking out whilst playing a piano, which isn't something you can do very well, as he illustrated.

There's a certain hostility against Keane.. I think they've given us some great songs and Tom Chaplin has a great voice.

Well I really like Keane. Tom Chaplin may not have the prettiest face, but does this really matter? He has an amazing voice and their songs, whicle they stick to a similar theme, are quite different from other stuff around. I love the songs and their album has been my absolute favourite album of the year by a million miles. I can't wait to hear their next one and see where they go from here. Can't wait to see them live at the festivals this summer too!
If you don't like them, fair enough, but I do, so there!

FAO SophiefromBloke:
I can't recall exactly what I said about you being a "shit singer" but I didn't mean to attack your singing skills per se, I just wanted to highlight that your band are rubbish. Well, not highlight it, just mention it in passing. It's nothing personal.
I like Keane. They are great. Well, not great, but good. Bedshaped is mighty.

FAO SophiefromBloke: I can't recall exactly what I said about you being a "shit singer" Either I'm going odd in the head, or you deleted that post. Something along the lines of 'There are enough shit singers in shit bands', in reference to me. I think it's fair to say you fucked up on that one. You're entitled to your opinion of my band, but don't say I'm a shit singer when you have no proof.

Unless you had custard in your ears, then I'd say you haven't paid attention to thier music, and you're just saying that because you don't like them, which is fair enough, but to say that thier songs don't have anything to them is madness, because Bedshaped is one of the most amazing songs of the last 5 years.

despite the fact that they are not the best looking guys in the world they play really good music. I went to see them at the Academy at Birmingham and got to meet the guys them selves and they are really friendly guys. : I hate that Keane are so fugly. I mean, it's depressing that women have to look *perfect* all of the time if they're in the music industry, then Tom Chaplin gets away with his scabby, monobrowed pudge of a face.
