Is there any other way Susanne could get in? She was by far my favourite. I could accumulate no passion for either Brian or Kirsty. It's all a bit of the public chosing the digestive again. Stupid public.

Very pleased that Kirsty's through, but I just knew the girls would take the young blonde Irishman bait...

If we're still talking about this as well, Alistair, Alex, Carolynne and Peter are safe in Fame Academy. Hurrah for that.

Brian sang 'Amazing'
Surprised Max didn't get into the top 5, thought he'd have an army of young hormonal girls swooning over him ... but I'm happy with the result, two great singers got through (gutted for Adam though)

Why are all their teeth so bad on Pop Idol tonight or is it just my tv. You're right but, Kirsty has bad teeth in the good way. In the good way that Jess X had before Richard Branson paid to have them fixed and she lost a good 15% of her arousability. I still would, but with regret. Notice how I am now hedging my bets with Kirsty. I predicted her quite early in the week but she did make a tw*t of herself flirting with Foxy and Cowell. She's probably the kind of girl who goes for father figures - which makes me resentful because if there's one thing I'll never be it's a father figure. Weird scrawny sex weasel. But never a father figure. I'm off to see Fannypack and Debbie Harry. Pop or what?

Oh, goody. Another blonde Irish popstar named Brian. I feel so cheated. Ahh the poor lad can't help his name ... I liked him enough. Spinme ... I thought Alex was very good tonight!

I liked wesu, it obviously meant a lot to him in that he stayed while his wife was about to have a baby. Some might say that was selfish but i say that was determination. Or maybe she was weeks off the due date. Who knows? She gave birth eight days after the final 50 auditions. she wasn't due when the auditions were on but he was worried just in case. It really, truly distresses me that Carrie Grant claims Peter "has proved he can sing". Correction: last week he proved he can just about hold a tune if the song is right. There's still a long way to go. As a voice coach, she should know better than to say things like that. Or perhaps I'm wrong, and an ability to pull silly faces is all you need to win Fame Academy. You need to called "Alex" I think to win FA 2. Peter was bad though, back to the bouncing around which isn't good when most of the time the mike is stationary and we keep missing half of what he sings/shouts. Furthermore, I heard Fame Academy was getting axed after this season so Carrie Grant may be off to doing the seaside circuits again. Apparently so but the two they've got on ITV2 show now are not a patch on Carrie and David even though CeeCee tries to do the "So what do you do........how does it make you feel" stuff Carrie used to. Yes. There is a wild card show. In this, the judges invite back some of the people who didn't get through and we vote for them. So lapdancer Rebecca will be back then. I really hope Jason tries again though but he was so gutted last time it mght not be good for his health. But once again you have to wonder at the point of it and how it effects the phone voting. If I wanted X to go through I'd have voted for them, why are they getting another go?

In a nutshell I found it quite unmemorable, no real characters and the ones that went through had OK but not show-winning voices. I beg to differ... It was wildly better than last weeks motley bunch...indeed, aside from Max (the Prince William a-like) they were all pretty darned good singers.... flicking between FA and Pop Idol demonstrated how much better then were than the BBC crowd, in fact. yes, they were good to great singers (Wesu, Adam, Susanne, all terrific ) what they lacked on this weeks Pop Idol was what I've come to know as the "Freak Factor"..... I.e. none of them were morbidly obese, one legged singing foetuses, for instance. The two that got through were amongst the weakest, vocally, but one had clearly fallen through the cracks of Westlife and the other was increadibly pretty, and had a "spunky" personality. Ah me...somethings never change....

Now I am undecided on wether my miss-ship was justified. Hmm. I'll just have to make sure I see it next week. I might even vote for someone.

But once again you have to wonder at the point of it and how it effects the phone voting. If I wanted X to go through I'd have voted for them, why are they getting another go? The wildcard system seems to work though. Strange little Clay on AI2 got through on the wildcard, as did the winner of Canadian Idol. There's always the possibility that some of the third placed contestants will have polled more votes in their round than the successful contestants in other rounds. That happened with Darius last time, as I remember, who came third but actually got far more votes than most of the second placed people in other rounds and of course he ended up going far further than Aaron who beat him in his heat. God, I can even bore myself on the subject of PI. Would someone please shoot me now? Anyway, I'm really hopeful that they'll bring Susanne back. I thought she was great, and she had something different about her that made her stand out as far as I'm concerned. And she stood out without being a freakshow with a human interest story for the tabloids. And a huge great big YAY! for James being expelled on FA. It's only about 6 weeks too late.

The two that got through were amongst the weakest, vocally, but one had clearly fallen through the cracks of Westlife and the other was increadibly pretty, and had a "spunky" personality. See now whilst the "Freak Factor" is seen by some as a problem to be honest without it it makes the show (or at least the final 50 shows where we haven't got to know the contestants properly before we vote) just bland. The Freak Factor in the final 10 is less important because it will be the same 10 (or 12 in this case) over and over so we can figure out who we like, but in the final 50, yes they were mostly good singers but had a distinct lack of stand-outish ness which made it hard to distinguish why I should vote for any of them. But again you said two of the weaker ones got through, one of whom for being like Westlife and the other for prettiness, God how boring a result that was.

When is Another SL's heat? I don't know, they showed him again in the "coming soon" graphic, along with all the others we might have heard of. He might turn up any week, although the NotW will probably have next week's 10 listed tomorrow.

And she stood out without being a freakshow with a human interest story for the tabloids. I don't know about that. If the ITV2 show mentioned her nervousness and lack of belief in her abilities once they mentioned it half a dozen times. Not so much a freakshow but certainly the most stand out of the ten (unless you count the arrogant one in the green dress and the sulky one in the glasses and bad roots).

Disregarding the eight that are still to come, here's how I'd have the current finalists in the final four...
1: Chris 2: Kirsty 3: Brian 4: Michelle
Surely the UK public can't be so shallow as to let a Ronan/Westlife clone win Pop Idol, and I don't see a girl winning at the moment, even though two girls have won the two heats so far.

I can see a girl winning if she's got the publicity Michelle and "she's a positive role model" thing going like she has. I think Alex FA has escaped the public vote so many times even on poor performances because she's seen as "a positive role model for lesbians" and I can't see Michelle being treated any differently. What will interest me is if the other larger one, Kim with the child goes through and where the press will focus their attention. Though I still want Michelle to win, even more so after seeing the two that got through this week.

I don't think Michelle is a good role model. Telling people you don't have to be thin or pretty to be a popstar is deluding them. The harsh reality is; you do have to be thin and pretty and interesting.

But that latter factor Kirsty and Adam are missing more than her.
Chris is interesting but only in a strange way.
Rik was never "interesting" if you ignored just how freaky he looked.

Rik was interesting, I think. He had a freakshow of a personality as well as the human interest story of his size. Unfortunately his "interesting" personality was spectacularly unappealing.
I find Chris almost as unappealing, though he's not quite at the Rik level of foulness. "Interesting" isn't always a good thing, if it means that the person sticks in your mind because they've made you want to throw things at the telly.
To win a show like PI, people have to love you. They have to be prepared to sit for 2 hours pressing redial without caring in the slightest about the quality of your performance on any given night. Right now, impressing enough people, or sticking in their minds, is sufficient to get through. Will anyone be that passionate about Michelle, by week 7 or 8 of the final 10 stage? I can't see it, personally.

Depends who else gets through I suppose, but tonight I don't think she faces any competition yet.
There's always Andy who's coming back like Darius did but appears not to have a personality of any great quality.
Tareeq and Rachel have overwhelming personalities but too much so.
There's always the chance someone will do a Will Young, but politely answering Simon back has been done already.

The harsh reality is; you do have to be thin and pretty and interesting. That may be true but as a role model she is affecting people who are not going to be popstars. She is telling girls that they just need to be them. I think she makes a nice change from all the size 2 girls we see on tv.
