The results of the final list are in: A1. JAMES BLUNT "YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL" B1. DANIEL POWTER "BAD DAY" C4. WESTLIFE "YOU RAISE ME UP" D1. KATIE MELUA "NINE MILLION BYCYCLES" What the fuck is wrong with this country?

I questioned McFlys entry as I too thought charity singles weren't allowed but I was told it was on their album and therefore counted. Which is weird. Cannot believe they got through, and Westlife. Thats madness. Same here. I was told that it wasnt written for Comic Relief - Neither was Amarillo. That the other song on the double A side was the Comic Relief song - the video for All About You indicates that they both were. And the whole album thing - since when has record of the year been about albums?? They've made it very obvious they want the money coming in from the McFly voters.

I guess All About You was written and then chosen by Richard Curtis but still...seems a bit bizzarre. And RE: Melua. Wasn't she knocked out pretty early on the last time? Lets hope for a repeat.
Does anyone have their predictions/suspicions this early on as to whos going to get it?

I think it will go:
1 (winning) Westlife 2 McFly 3 Kelly Clarkson 4 Black Eye Peas 5 Gorillaz 6 James Blunt 7 Gwen Stefani (only because it was released last year) 8 Daniel Powter 9 Lemar 10 Katie Melua

When 'All About You' first materialised, it was touted as being written 'especially for Comic Relief'. Quite what prancing about on some kitchen tiles to unmelodic morris-dancing music has to do with Comic Relief is beyond me.

I think it was written for his girlfriend then chosen from a choice of 3 songs

They did make the claim that it was written for 'Comic Relief', though, which was patently bollocks.

Is "Hung Up" not in this then?
Surely it should be? Three weeks at number one must count for something? Or will it be shoe-horned into next years?

The Record Of The Year is a load of crap anyway. There's only been one decent winner (S Club 7's Don't Stop Movin').
If I remember rightly Katie Melua came fifth last year.... scary thought.
Anyway, Westlife will obviously win. On the basis that they've had a single out this year. Their obsessive fans will guarrantee they'll win yet again.

Did "You Raise Me Up" really sell enough to get onto the shortlist? It reminds me of the year "Mandy" won despite the fact it shouldn't have qualified.

I think they invented a new rule for McFly. Previous Comic Relief singles have normally been excluded despite having big enough sales, and those singles were on albums too!
It seems that in the absence of last year's winner doing a turn, they've got Will Young on. I think there is a rule that he should be on each year whether or not he's got an eligible single. I wonder if he'll sing a song that will go onto be eligible the next year as he did last time?

Westlife will win because their fans are notorious bed wetters serial texters. Quite why the monotonous and repetitious act of texting a number a zillion times would appeal to them, I really couldn't imagine. Indeed. A monotonous and repititious act enjoyed by Westlife fans? Madness. I wonder if when pressing in the digits to send their messages they stand up at a key change.....

I don't think it is "My Humps" as on the advert for the show they've been playing "Don't funk with my heart" .They also say on the advert that Robbie Williams "Tripping" is in the shortlist. Why do they always fuck this up? I might actually get off my arse and vote this year- "Since u been gone" all the way!

Oh dear, our country is seriously screwed up. Mariah should have got through, seeing as she is far superior to half the acts on that list. The list reads like a who's who of a pre-pubescent girls IPod artists - tragic

I can just about buy them liking James Blunt and Daniel Powter given they were both big hits, but Katie Melua? If anything they're more likely to listen to Mariah than her, or Blunt or Powter. Anyway, Mariah wouldn't have got very far considering she wouldn't have turned up on the night. Not to mention that the fat cow and her slushy, sickly pseudo-R&B ballad are no great loss.

Because not enough people voted. Thank You Beaten by both McFly and Westlife. I agree its a better song and should have gone through but both these bands have been around longer and each have dedicated fans, not afraid to spend £10 on texts.

Isn't it obvious every year that they basically rig the groups so that certain songs can't get through? Sorry to be Mr Conspiracy Theorist, but they always stick the people they know will never turn up in a million years (Mariah, Lopez etc) in among people who they know would turn up to a letter opening, but who the teen girls will vote for. For example, last year they shamelessly stuck Britney and Usher, who they knew full well wouldn't turn up, in the same group as Busted and McFly, who they knew would get voted through by their rabid fans and who would, most importantly, turn up. This programme means shit.

It's just a money making scam for ITV basically. Just like Pop Idol/X Factor is when it boils down to it.

McFly, Westlife, James Blunt, Daniel Powter and The Black Eyed Peas are in the Top 5. We should not let the general public anywhere near a telephone for things like these.
