I'm not being rude but where is all this Shakin' Stevens love coming from?! I really didn't think he would be a Popjustice favourite...

I'm not being rude but where is all this Shakin' Stevens love coming from?! I really didn't think he would be a Popjustice favourite... He was the best selling artist of the 1980's. He sang music that everybody loved and he could dance (well if you liked that kind of thing!) At a time when others were being all new romantic and electro he was different to the trends! Listening him just makes me feel nostalgic that's all!

Most of the Shakey loving has come from Mel who registered on Monday and has only posted in the Shakey thread. Mel, are you Mrs Shakey?

no I am not Mrs Shakey - Just a rather sad 30 year old fan who remembers him from the '80s!
I am sure I am not the only one who said that he was good!!!

i think his style of music was vile and contrived to be able to appeal to really old people and very young children at the time.
He was probably best selling cause his records were all soft and very safe songs people wouldnt mind buying for members of their family.
Did anyone really come back from a Shaky concert having 'rocked'?! I dont think so.
I think in terms of his music apeal and audience he is the closest we have here to the German Schlager artists.

But that's just your opinion! I went to one of his concerts in the 1980's and he definately gave value for money. So what if his music was safe? There is no way that he would have had as many singles sales if it were only old people and small children buying the records! Don't get me wrong, I loved the diversity of the music that was around in the 1980's - electro, new romantic, hip hop - there was a place for everything - Each to their own and all that - but I don't think Vile is a very fair way to describe his music! Not when you take into account the PWL days! ![;)](http://www.popjustice.co.uk/banners/nosmiley.gif)

Ben, that is a fairly accurate description of Shakey being our version of German Schlager. If anyone has Music Choice Extra on Sky, there is a German schlager station and it is cheese on a stick with a pickle on top!
I think the majority of people watching the show will be in their late 20s/early 30s. They will probably vote for the one they remember most fondly. I remember a couple of years ago, my favourite student club used to play Tiffany every night without fail and it would always get a massive reaction. Her album was the first one I ever had, on tape! (Until my cousin nicked it, I cried for ages)
I'd love Belinda to get through this week, I was listening to her Greatest Hits the other night and she did have some crackers. You never know, "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" is a classic, and stands the test of time much more than "This Ole House", which wasn't even Shakey's to begin with!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion though... Actually, Shaky had one song that I liked (quick Google search later) Come See About Me, and obviously Merry Christmas Everyone is a classic. I still say Belinda is gonna walk it!

I guess Saturday will let us see!!! Come see about me was a good song, but it was quite a late one - his best songs were performed from 1981 - 1986 (just my opinion though!)

Random thought - why did no-one "Eric Prydz" Howard's What Is Love yet? Or am I wrong? You're wrong, already been done by Milk & Sugar and currently riding up the european dance charts. Also, Mohito has just sampled another of his big hits on a trcak called Slip Away, and that too has been a big european dance hit. Just found an interesting cover of I Think We're Alone Now by an act called Playhouse, they have also done Toy Soldiers, very cheap euro sounding.

The first gig I went to (made to go to) was Shakin Stevens at Newcastle City Hall. I remember all these women throwing knickers at him.
Would be great to see him back on the chart scene again...

How good would it be to see a "Hit Me Baby........" tour off the back of the show. I'd easily pay 25-30 quid a ticket to see Tiffany, Belinda, Shakey, Chesney etc all on one stage
Would love tickets for the final

So... on to tonight.
Shakin Stevens didn't do anything for me.
I'm loving Jaki Graham.
Is Belinda high on life, or some other substance? I hate her outfit.
Haddaway singing Toxic, bloody hell! His first song was ace enough!
Doctor and the Medics - love Spirit In The Sky but I'm not fussed one way or the other.

Haddaway! I'm speechless.
Audience seemed to be loving Shaky, he opened the show pretty well. Dr and the Medics the audience favourite? Please don't let them win!
*furiously texts in countless Haddaway votes*

Jakki Graham - awesomeness incarnate. Haddaway wasn't bad too, but god that cartoon voice he did freaked me out... There wouldn't happen to be somewhere I can, erm, listen again, would there?

Belinda should win for being brave to show her voice off rather than have drowned out by the music or backing singers.
Tiffany knocked her off number one, you know?
