OK now I've seen it 6 times in under 24 hours, without sitting in front of the TV all day (I swear). I just turn it on and THERE SHE IS, writhing away. Go Dannii, say I. Or II.

Oh, how I pray that she gets the airplay. Even wall-to-wall music channel coverage means little without goddamn Radio 1 A list.

the difference between dannii's back catalogue and kylie's PWL stuff is that people never had any connection to the early dannii stuff. kylie, even if you were an indie queen back in 1989, was omnipresent. years later, her SAW stuff is seen as modern day motown... dannii? not so much. i mean, who REALLY (even her greatest fans) can remember anything about the first time they saw the LOVE AND KISSES video, or heard SHOW YOU THE WAY TO GO? fact is, people just have never connected to dannii...past, or present...the way they have kylie. she has no I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY/BETTER THE DEVIL YOU KNOW/ESPECIALLY FOR YOU/CGYOOMH moment in in her entire ouerve.
now: that doesnt mean a hits package from her is irrelevant. like it or not, she has had some hits before the NEON NIGHTS era, and having them collected and remastered (for the first time in the UK, i believe) is no duff move. will it sell loads? come on... who are we kidding?

...and the new video is so Kylie circa 1989 that it has instantly become my favourite video of the past 24 hours. How is the video at all anything like 'Enjoy Yourself'-era Kylie? I am struggling to think here.... are we talking about 'Love & Kisses', or 'So Under Pressure'? This video so screams 'Mixed Up World', if anything!

I have to say that I think Neon Nights is one of my favourite pop albums ever. It beats any of Kylie's efforts (although Light Years and Rhythm Of Love are perhaps on a par). I don't know how you can compare Dannii to Kylie, Kylie is in a much higher league. I can compare them for very simple reasons. First of all, I don't see what an artist's stardom "league" has to do with their actual musical output. Just because someone sells more records does not necessarily make them better. Popularity does not equal quality (although Kylie, of course, is quality). But the main reason I can compare them is because, if you hadn't noticed, they are both very similar female artsists within the same genre. So it really wasn't very difficult.

Its not really shocking when popstars are forced back into the real world to do a 'real job'.
What makes you think the showbiz world owes a famous-for-5-minutes popstar a long career in the limelight?

I suppose rather than 'shocking' I meant sad....there are lots of waste talents out there. Hearing things like this makes me a little sad. Then again perhaps it is better when popstars retire quietly rather than trying forever to sell a product the public don't want!

Imagine how awful it would be to work in 'music zone' and someone buys your CD from you (especially as it's likely to be £1.99 in there). There must be a lesbian equivalent of GAY where she can play on a regular basis, surely?!

That must rank as the most embarrassing thing ever. If I was a flopstar I'd sooner stay in the industry doing session work, songwriting, ANYTHING music-related even - before going back to working in a shop.

The promo looks promising from what I can remember reading; Strictly Dance Fever, GMTV, Popworld and features in both GQ and Cosmopolitan. Quite impressive for AATW, no?

Oh my God is that true!! Lol. Shocking if it is.... It's not true, thankfully... for one she is from Cornwall, not Devon! Alex was offered loads independent label deals when it was announced she had "parted company" with Polydor, but decided to take a conscious break and then shop around a finished record, as she wanted it, to labels. She still is signed to her new management, having left Safe who took over straight after "Fame Academy."

Features in GQ and Cosmo, are good, but im sure GQ readers wont be buying the single. Ill be really dissapointed if she uses Brave Kylies cancer to promotethe single/album. She will also need to do some form of greatest hits megamix, to promote the fact its a greatest hits she is releasing.

Anyone think it would be time for An Audience With Dannii Minogue too? Yes, the Greatest Hits just isn't going to take off until the public experiences the wonder of Penny Smith, Peter Andre and Nicky Clarke pretending to know the words to "Love and Kisses" .

[quote author=t Oh my goodness board=general thread=1144439255 post=1145708136] Ill be really dissapointed if she uses Brave Kylies cancer to promotethe single/album. I don't think she will at all. However I fear that's what she's gonna be asked by the press and that's the angle they'll use when interviewing and writing about her but then she'll be the one accused of trying to capitalise on 'brave Kylie' when all she's done is honestly talk about a subject relevent to her when asked about it. It's a shame we live a cynical era where everything a celebrity says or does is considered to be an ulterior motive to enhance their career but that's the world we live in. She can't win though because if she refuses to talk about the issue the press'll turn against her because she won't give them what they want and it'll be back to the days when Dannii was considered 'difficult'. I always thought her apparent mellowing stood her in good stead for Neon Nights. It's gonna be a hard balancing act I think.

that wont happen. dannii has always maintained a very dignified silence when it comes to kylies cancer and privacy. i think the first to talk about it properly will be kylie, and that will not be far away i would guess.

I saw Dannii on GMTV a while ago and she politely refused to talk about Kylie's health.
Good on her i say.

Over the last year whenever I've seen Dannii interviewed the conversation is always steered round to "and how is Kylie doing?", Dannii always gives a very concise but polite "much better, thanks for asking".
I think it would drive me insane if all anyone ever wanted to talk to me about was my big sister's career - no wonder she used to be "difficult"!

As far as I can tell, she's handled the interest in Kylie's health brilliantly. It's inevitable she'll be asked about it, and on tv and radio it will be a detail of the interview, but in print, it's bound to be one of the bits they turn into a big headline and then there will be some who interpret that as Dannii using Kylie for headlines. I only hope there are enough people with the common sense to see beyond that.
