According to a report on Digitalspy, Amstell and Oliver are quitting Popworld.
Shall we all just give up and go home now?

While there great and some of the thinsg simon had said have made me laugh out loaud on many an occasion-they can just be a bit much some times. Thers only so much sarcasm you can take really, and well its no wonder Girls Aloud, Rachel Stevens, Britney and many others have been pissed off with them-especially as thier the "good bunch" of current pop stars

Believe it or not, they've actually toned down a lot of the sarcasm. Around two or three years ago, a lot of artists were reluctant to appear on the show because of the way the two presenters behaved towards them.
A bit of knowing sarcasm is fine, but if you want names to appear on the show, you have to play ball at least some of the time.
This isn't just about pop stars being precious and over-sensitive: why appear on a show which doesn't do that great shakes in the ratings just so two wannabe media students can take the piss out of you? Words were said and the two of them backed off a bit.
That said, it's hard to imagine what direction the show will now take without the two of them at the helm. While I think that Miquita is a witless bag who needs to blow her nose, and Simon is a Vileda supermop with a massive inferiority complex, the show's USP is their irreverent humour and occasional bad behaviour.
Who'll replace them? Dave Berry and fucking Myleene, probably.

Noone will ever be able to live up to Simon's brilliance.
As of April, Popworld is over

Believe it or not, they've actually toned down a lot of the sarcasm. Around two or three years ago, a lot of artists were reluctant to appear on the show because of the way the two presenters behaved towards them. Simon seemingly made some very nasty comments to Jentina (about her looks and her fraudulent biography) who then ran out of the interview room in a huff. This is when I really started to love Simon - what he does is prick the bubble of pomposity that surrounds the famous and watches them deflated slowly. Look at how stupid he made Kelly Osbourne look, which isn't very difficult I know, in his interview with her. She came across as very reactionary and unpleasant. Miquita isn't so good I'm afraid. By herself she lacks everything.

Yup, it's Alex Zane taking over. Doesn't he make every single programme he appears on unwatchable?

Excuse me, that's a wind-up about Alex Zane surely? He's Westwood's long-lost Kiwi nephew.

I think you are confusing Alex Zane with Zane Lowe.
I think he'll try and be like Simon and it won't work.

Surely there would be a new presenter as well? I mean a few months ago they were asking for people to send in audition tapes to be the new popworld presenter so I guess they may have got someone from there...

It seems a bit odd that after five years they've both suddenly decided to quit the show together.

Not really. I'm sure as soon as one said 'I'm off', the other said 'I don't want to do it without you'.
If I'd heard this a couple of years ago I'd have been gutted. Even 12 months ago it was still essential viewing for me, but lately I've been watching it out of habit more than a love for the show. The witty comments just don't seem as witty as they used to be, and there are only so many times you can joke about the lack of content before it gets boring. There's being quirky and alternative, and then there's being outright rude.
Taking the piss out of the system is fine, and winding up the popstars themselves to see how they handle it is welcome. You shouldn't be a popstar if you can't cope with that, and if pitched at the right level, it gives the artist the chance to show off that they are fun/witty/clever more than a bog standard fawning interview ever would. However, too often lately the "interviews" consist of nothing more than fledgling popstars smiling weakly while they are humiliated on camera. There are no funny/witty/clever responses to what's being pitched at them, and if they did stand up for themselves they'll leave themselves vulnerable to bitching and harsh editing. The interviews where they appear to like the subject and have a laugh with them are still fun to watch, but it's a mystery to me how they decide who these lucky people might be.

Completely disagree with the last post. Watching the highlights of 2005 just showed again how incredibly great they (well simon playing off of miquita anyway) were. I'm almost distraught

Besides how can you take the likes of Craig David, Bedingfield and Anthony Costa seriously? I got fed up seeing Cat Deeley 'interview' people on cd-uk.
"That's fantastic, Daniel/Craig/the Ayatollah. So how brilliant is your album then? Really? That's fantastic. Here's the brilliant new single from Westlife....." *cuts to four/five blokes on stools/Deeley has Botox break*

This is sad sad news, but I said last year that it was going to end some time soon - just didn't think it would be this soon. They may as well axe the show and replace it with something else. Simon and Miquita were "Popworld" - no one else could do it.

There's been something wrong for a while: TOTP Reloaded has been more compulsive viewing than Popworld.

I think it'll be a big change when Simon and Miquita leave - This morning I thought Simon was on top form and incredibly funny.
I think Alex Zane is quite a good choice as a replacement but it will come down to who they choose as a female presenter (if they're getting a female presenter). If it's someone too giggly like Miquita was when she started it may start to go back downhill again.

I never really liked Miquita. Though she does work as a foil for Simon, on her own she is pretty hopeless. However I prefer her any day to some Cat Deely-alike gushng over every act.

What did Simon say that upset Britney? Wasn't it something to do with slimming pills? I think there'd been a photo of her with some in her bag and he bought it up in the interview. I don't really remember.

Heat is reporting that Alex Zane has been signed up and they want to get Kelly Osborne to co-host. I hope not, shes vile. Would be great if Lauren Laverne would do it

they want to get Kelly Osborne to co-host. Please God No. After Friday Night's appearance on 8 Out Of 10 Cats, I can't believe Channel 4 would want her on any of their shows for a long time to come. She'd be terrible

Just bring back Jamie and Jayne on 'The O-Zone' Seconded!! I used to love their interview technique, which was simply to flirt with the popstar to the point where they either got (a) an exclusive quote or (b) a shag. Even better, let's bring back No Limits. What could be a better pop format than Jenny Powell and a bloke touring the university towns of the UK to bring you the latest video by T'Pau?
