Didn't Pat Kane from Hue & Cry give up pop to become a serious music journalist for the Guardian?

Wasn't he rector of Glasgow University or something? He was always a bit of an intellectual.
I wonder what song they'll sing? I assume it'll be "Looking for Linda" as I think that was their biggest hit across the UK, but my favourite was "My Salt Heart". I remember seeing them on Glasgow Green at the same fateful concert where Sheena Easton was booed.

Bizarrely, Pat Kane is some kind of big cheese consultant and "thinker in residence" now. He's written a book - The Play Ethic, which explores how people can live and work more creatively - and seems to be getting taken incredibly seriously.
I suspect they will do Looking for Linda, but Labour of Love was a much better song.

I imagine they'll sing Labour Of Love. It was a their only top ten hit and the remix made the top 20 too. Violently was a great song too.
Alison Moyet once asked Smash Hits if Pat was taking the piss when he said he wanted her to mother him.

They mentioned Labour Of Love in the clips at the end so I guess they'll do that.
I don't really know these people apart from Sinitta. I've heard of The Real Thing and Hazel O'Connor but no idea what they sang.

Alison Moyet once asked Smash Hits if Pat was taking the piss when he said he wanted her to mother him. Oh God I remember that. It started when he told Smash Hits (possibly whilst guest reviewing the new singles releases) that he fantasised about Alison Moyet smothering him with her ample bosom.

I don't really know these people apart from Sinitta. I've heard of The Real Thing and Hazel O'Connor but no idea what they sang. I think the Real Thing were the ones that sang You To Me Are Everything (as in..."the sweetest song that I could sing, oh baby, oh baby" etc.). Hazel O Connor I haven't the foggiest about, although she mentioned something about breaking glass in the clips.

Hazel o conner mentioned breaking glass, which is a film she was in. Not sure which hit she had from it, but it will be D-days,eighth day,or will you as they were her biggest hits. Will you was probably her best song, but eighth day is a lively number

I think Hazel will win as she's still gigging a lot with a fan base. I saw her at a punk all dayer at the Astoria in December and she was awful mind you.

Is this the soon to be a Booker award winning biopic "Who Put The Sin In Sinitta" that she was always threatening promising to write? I remember her being asked if she was planning to have it printed on recycled paper and the daft bint answered no, that only the best would be good enough - clearly not realising it was a question about being environmentally friendly and not insulting the validity of her celebrity life-style.

THE Sabrina? Wow! I'm tempted... Yes THE Sabrina!! Boys has to be one of my all time favourite song....and I was a huge New Kids fan too. My ideal line up would have been Jordan, Sabrina, Nick Heyward, Chesney and Nathan Moore! So the fact I've got 2 of them makes me v happy

Who are China Black? I loved The Real Thing. I hope they do it. Should pull off a good performance.

Wow, China Black were so ace! Searching takes me right back to 1994 - it's an amazing song. I though Sinitta was fab too, blew Natasha out of the water. But Crazy In Love? I'm not sure what to think about that one.

'Crazy in Love' was inspired. I thought 'Single' was awful - but then I have always disliked the song.
China Black were great - why had I not heard of them before?

A good standard tonight I thought. The Real Thing were good, Sinitta and China Black were fantastic (preferred their covers, which were brilliant, loved CB 'Wham'-ing up The Darkness) and Hue and Cry were much better than I thought they'd be and deserved to win. Was quite surprised they beat Sinitta though. Hazel, not liking so much.

Not the covers though, which is a bit of a shame. Maybe that will come later. I see the Village People are on the CD. Have they been on yet?

It's possible they planned the CD before the line-up changed. Hopefully a CD of the covers will be released in time for Christmas, or after the tour! It would be a lot more expensive to put together than the one of original songs, so worth waiting to see if the show took off.
I thought the quality of the acts last night was the best I've seen. Sinitta was better than I expected, and I thought what she did with Single was very clever, because let's face it - she doesn't have the vocals to sing it the way Natasha does.
Hue and Cry were great, and worthy winners. They sounded really fresh (even if they didn't look it), and I think their music could sell well today. In fact, I'm tempted to go out and buy one of their albums on CD assuming they are available. Perhaps a GH beckons?

I have 2 Hue and Cry CD's and listened to them again last night after the programme. Bitter Suite includes an interesting cover of 'Shipbuilding' and a homage to Glasgow 'Mother Glasgow'. I had forgotten how good they were.

I thought that next week was the last week before the final but the compilation CD suggests there are 2 more weeks. AND if 911 are on they will be doing Bodyshakin'! Now that is exciting. I can't wait to hear the legendary rap.
I thought China Black were robbed this week - Hue & Cry were alright but I was very surprised that they won - was expecting CB, The Real Thing or at a stretch Sinitta but not them!

Although I reconised the song, I still don't remember China Black at all. Their performances were clearly the best. The cover version of the Darkness song was sheer brilliance.
