The B-sides are 'The Resurrectionist' and 'Girls Don't Cry'.

The B-sides are 'The Resurrectionist' and 'Girls Don't Cry'. Has that actually been confirmed?? The last thing PSB said on their website was that they may be future b-sides.

Is it bad or just a different kind of good? I love 'different kind of good' songs! This isn't one of them. "Very" was a different kind of good. It is my favourite PSB album.

mine too imagewise for the idea that they should be deliberately artificial because everyone else was being stripped down and real at the time. Love Can you forgive her and the pointy hat look.
Actually comes high too...

What I like the most about "I'm with stupid", is that it's not just funny, it's also genuinely moving. In fact it is a very sad song (musically and lyrically). Of course this is nothing new for the PSB and it's part of makes them special, etc., but I think they really got it right on this one. Shame about the lazy chorus.

I love the production (so 1987).
I love the verses.
But the silly sausages forgot to put a chorus in!
It has got me really excited about the album though.

But the silly sausages forgot to put a chorus in! What about I'm with Stupid repeated ad infinitum? I think it's a great single even if it was their third choice and EMI made them release it so Little Britain could do the video. It's Shameless meets Bobby O.

I've just managed to hear it.
I fucking love it. I'm a PSB fan but since Nightlife, especially "You only tell me you love me..." I had felt a bit dissapointed with their single choices but this is a great return to form. From the ear splitting siren at the start to the lush 'wild boys' style drum fills and the lyrics its the ultimate intelligent pop record for 2006.
I hope the record buying public can see past the "oh they're an old band" thing for this one.
Cant wait to hear it out somewhere, see the video and all the promotion they'll do. Unfortunately my finals are from may 8th - 19th meaning i might be missing a bit of revision time to chase their interviews and tv bits...

There's something incredibly wrong with 'Fundamental' and I can't put my finger on it.
I've given it a couple of listens now, and I'm finding it, well, incredibly dull.
The only real highlights for me are Minimal (certainly not single material though), I'm With Stupid and Integral. The Sodom and Gomorrah Show works, although it sounds like it should be a 'Release' B-side, in the vein of 'I Didn't Get Where I Am Today'. Numb is epic, but certainly not something I'd expect Neil would say yes to singing. Casanova In Hell is bizarre - Neil saying 'couldn't get an erection' with what sounds like the Woo-woo-woo-woo from Human League's Mirror Man in the background. The rest up to 'Integral' just sort of run into each other almost Katie Melua-like not really going anywhere.
Integral is simply stunning. Everything that makes a Pet Shop Boys disco stomping anthem. It's Can You Forgive Her mixed with Flamboyant mixed with Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money) and yet at the same time quite apocalyptic and seriously scary with Neil taking on some kind of dictator role. This is what I was expecting the album to be filled with. And because I thought that, I think I feel like I've been letdown a bit. If 'Integral' isn't a single, especially in the current political climate, I will personally cut off Parlophone's balls and hang them outside EMI. it's that good.
I'm not 'disappointed' with the album, it's a new PSB album afterall. I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting. It's slow. It doesn't really get going. In fact it doesn't actually go anywhere, but then what PSB album does? It's just all a bit 'meh'.
Don't go into it with these expectations of every track blowing you away. Integral will, first time. Luna Park won't, even on the second. Just let it I guess 'wash' over you, and then come back to it track by track. That's all I can say really.

I always have to remind myself that I have never liked a PSB album all the way through, but I do think Release was subpar. I am happy for them to add like 5 songs to the "canon" and do some cool b's.

This is what I was expecting the album to be filled with. I don't know why you were expecting an album full of disco tracks. I think Popjustice said it had only 3 or 4 uptempo stompers and Q magazine says it's their saddest album yet. Personally I'm glad as I didn't like Very because it had too many cheesy dance tracks. A few anthems are ok, but I don't like a whole album of them. I guess that's why my favourite PSB albums are Please and Bilingual. I guess people just want different things from them though. I prefer their more atmospheric mid tempo stuff.

Maybe because the last CD was a midtempo/ no-tempo snoozer and people have come to love PSB for their galloping disco pop anthems? Hmmm? That's WHY people are expecting that. MOst of their hits are disco pop tracks.

I wouldn't call tracks like West End Girls, Domino Dancing, Being Boring, Can You Forgive Her and others disco pop anthems. I prefer these kind of tracks to things like Go West, Metamorphosis and New York City Boy. Just my opinion.
Release was boring because of the acoustic production, not the tempo. The piano version of London on Disco3 is beautiful.

i have a feeling im going to greatly disagree with your review of this new psb album "hula fallulah", its supposed to be the return to form that the pet shop boys really need. but anyway for now i will just have to wait and see...

According to their website the video for "I'm with Stupid" is being filmed this weekend (April 1/2). starring Matt Lucas and David Walliams as rumoured. So al least it will be seen (unlike most of the last singles).

I hope they appear more than in "Home and dry" video The new video is actually very similar to Home and dry. Lucas and Walliams appear as two giant mice who camp it up outrageously. Neil and Chris are glimpsed in a hamster cage.

The cover and single artwork is beautiful (of course) but very dark and kind of threatening. Neil continues to look like a hot school librarian while Chris is suddenly looking a bit puffy.
Their saddest record yet? Sadder than "Behaviour" ? I'd better call for my anti-depressants prescription now.

I wouldn't say it's as sad as Behaviour. It's more a message to where we are heading as a nation, especially 'Integral', and one which doesn't look pretty.
The artwork is actually quite colourful. The cover only really tells half the story.
They are supposed to be undertakers on the cover by the way.

i really liked the pictures which supported the interview in the Word Magazine - one with chris in what looked like a feathery millitary helmet and one where neil is holding a flourescent tube.

I love them, but I don't think of Neil as hot. /rant If your idea of "hot" is stuck in some Genre magazine swimsuit spread with barely legal 18-year-olds, then ok, but if your definition of hot includes intelligence, talent, charisma, nice eyes, great smile, strong yet elegant hands, maturity, etc. etc. etc. then Neil Tennant remains a sex god.
