Yes, that's the one. Let's hope he continues to be good and gets shown more next episode.

He looks a bit like Freddy Krueger. Maybe it's just the hat.
I was disappointed that Briana the perky-goth opera singer didn't get through.
So far I'm not seeing anyone outstanding, but I always have difficultly picking out who I like at this stage. I quite like the girl with dark hair who was with Elizabeth Pau -- not the one with the nose who was straight up rude to her.
Lots of them, I just don't understand. Why did the fat one who wouldn't rehearse with his group keeping doing that odd stare into the camera routine?

It looks like he's about to jump out the TV and kill us all. Perhaps it's gonna be like AI2 when half of the contestants turn out to be criminals, except this time they won't be shoplifters but serial killers! Jessica

Has the episode aired in which Simon and Paula row? Paula called over Nigel Lythgoe and was speaking to him about Simon and Simon tapped her and said something along the lines of "say it to my face". She got all irate because she said that she can't say it out loud etc. and then she left Simon red-faced when she actually did say it aloud. Ok that probably makes no sense to anyone. The best part was when Simon said "come here" and the two of them had a BIG hug. It was lovely.

Yes - we see everything the same week it's shown in the US. There's not that much of a time gap. I always get excited when Nigel Lythgoe is on AI. Nasty Nigel!!

Jessica The yearly event of the Group Round is also called The American Idol Producers’ Guaranteed Bickering Segment And Therefore Great TV. I noticed they dropped the even more rubbish round of ‘Write your own song in the next 15 minutes using the following words – dream, believe, mountains to climb etc; the worst will be used as the basis for the winner’s song.’<br> We do see their personalities though. I thought Scott Savol was a poor guy who’d been routinely beaten by his dad who didn’t believe in him. Now it turns out, him and his dad probably have an arsenal in the woods and are rehearsing for the upcoming armageddon! And it’s also obvious that John Ziza is really not taking this competition very seriously at all, whereas fake rocker Constantine is taking it maybe a bit too seriously (all that 5,6,7,8 stuff).

Which one is John Ziza? I can't remember him. Constantine's dance with those other guys was the most hilarious bit of all. I was expecting a struggle to get him away from the wannabe rocker stuff, but it only took one group number to turn him boyband! Jessica

My favourite didn't make it! I'm really sad, he seemed like he had something a bit different, although I guess he wasn't really much of a pop star. And it looks like the new format won't allow for the round where they bring good people back - annoyingly I've forgotten what it's called. So anyway, that must be the end for him. I've been reading the contestant profiles and I've chosen my top 6 boys: (in no particular order) Anwar, Constantine, David, Judd, Mario and Travis. and girls: Carrie, Janay, Jessica, Nadia, Vonzell and Amanda. Of course I will probably be supporting all the ones I didn't mention, give it a week! Jessica

The four people I thought/hoped would get into the top-50 did make it into the top-24, so I'm quite pleased. They're:
Vonzell Solomon: she's so much in control that you needn't even notice. But that's something that's important in the long run.
Carrie Underwood: She could become more wonderful than Leanne Rimes...
Nikko Smith: Like Vonzell he's lacking charisma but is good. He's changed his name from Osbourne/Ozzie to Nikko, which probably is good - but I wish he'd done it before the competition started.
Anwar Robinson: If this was about best all-around good human being he would definitely be my favourite. As things are he still is, but not as much.
Then there has been loads I've hoped for that I doubted would make it. Like Elizabeth Pha - cool, soulful voice, but there was something wrong. First her dress sense, then her amazing inability to memorize lyrics. Maybe she'd be better in Khmer Idol? (Little known fact - she survived the Killing Fields of Cambodia.)
There could be some that I thought would make it but didn't. But they wouldn't be as many.
There are some that I don't care much for, but made it as I predicted, like Nadia Turner. Yes, she really looks the part, but how much better a singer is she than some of the people that have been booted out?
So now it's going to be interesting to see how much some of the contestants will grow. I've got quite high hopes for people like David Brown - contestants that passed me by before because there was so much on offer.

The 16 year old (Mikaleh?) reminds of someone but I can't quite put my finger on it. I genuinely felt for her when she was in tears and facing rejection but the whole over the top screaming and wailing made me detest her again.
And as for Slingblade, the anti social serial killer lookalikey, a case of great voice, but what the fuck else. Great for viewers but no chance of winning, so why bother putting him through?

And as for Slingblade, the anti social serial killer lookalikey, a case of great voice, but what the fuck else. Great for viewers but no chance of winning, so why bother putting him through? It would appear that Mikala has based her personality on Barbra Streisand, in her Funny Girl period. It’s kind of endearing to see a 16 year old that confident, and I did love her mum’s nerves and reactions to her making it, but I predict she’ll become very, very annoying soon. Scott has been put through on his voice, but there’s no way that he’s going to get to Final 12 based on his competition (all cute, talented boys, i.e. what the judges are looking for this year.) Unless the American public start a McManus-like campaign to keep him in, he’s no chance. My tips for Top 12 are: Girls: Sarah Mather, Carrie Underwood, Nadia Turner, Vonzelle Solomom, Mikala Gordon, Lindsay Cardinale. Boys: Constantine, Anwar Robinson, Mario Vazquez, Travis Tucker, Anthony Federov, David Brown. All of them have featured extensively throughout the competition, from their first auditions, and are likely to have a huge advantage over the others who we’ve barely heard sing. People like Scott won’t get through because he has nothing but a good voice, Amanda Avila (Vegas showgirl) won’t get through because people perceive her to be too pretty and Simon favours her, even though she has a nice voice. My winner (since his second audition) is Mario Vazquez. He has everything the AI producers want this year – he’s cute, good voice, is at the top end of the age range and, most importantly, is male. No way is a girl going to win this year.

I think Mario Vasquez would be a great winner as he's cute and cool and seemingly quite willing to be a proper pop star. If they can find him some good quality songs he could be brilliant although he may turn out to be a bit of a Justin wannabe. It's interesting that there aren't so many 'quirky' people who have the voice but don't fit the popstar mould as there have been the past 2 series. These people actually look like pop stars already, although very few of them seem to like contemporary pop music. There are several into their Usher and Alicia Keys but most of them state their fave singers as classic olden days types, which means they'll probably be singing those songs in the live rounds. I would personally be really interested to see them take a leaf out of Australian Idol's book and attempt some more modern songs this year, but it's looking unlikely with this lot, as talented as they do seem to be.

If they can find him some good quality songs he could be brilliant although he may turn out to be a bit of a Justin wannabe. It’s the hats, isn’t it? I think someone told him he looked like Justin one day when he was wearing his porkpie hat, and he’s not taken it off since. It’s his only failing really, as I love everything else about him, including the fact that he chose to sing Bohemian Rhapsody for his final audition piece (and pissed all over G4 in the process). Apart from anything else, I’ve had my own personal conspiracy theory since the end of season 3 that a male Latino would win this year. As soon as I saw Mario, I knew he was The Producer’s Choice. Constantine, as the ‘rocker’ of the group (despite Bo Bice being twice as rocky AND with a better voice) will end up Top 3 or 4, again for the simple reason that they’ve not had anyone like him before.

Constantine has more star quality and a coolness that you don't usually see in the kind of 'rocker' contestants you usually get on these shows. He could appeal to the mainstream pop loving viewers as a bit of sexy rocker on the side, whereas Bo is less accessible in that way, although maybe if he'd been shown more we'd get to see his personality. Who knows, maybe we'll get both in the top 12! I think Constantine will be more malleable into more contemporary rock songs that the public will like while Bo appears a bit stuck in the 90s. I wish Mario would keep his hair in the mini-dreads ponytail type style he had before when they showed him at home, I liked that look much better than the pseudo-JT thing he's got now. Jessica

Constantine does have that charisma thing, doesn’t he? He’s more ‘late 90’s Jon Bon Jovi rock-lite’ than the long hair, black clothes version that Bo appears to be.
Apparently, he’d appeared in ‘Rent’ before auditioning for AI. Doesn’t quite tie in with the whole ‘Guys I’m leaving our rock band’ bull shit they tried to pull off, does it? Never mind, I do like him. Like Mario, he seems to have the right level of competitiveness to make it all the way. On the whole (psychos excluded), they’ve assembled a good-looking bunch of guys (Anwar Robinson is adorable – all puppy dog eyes and dreadlocks!).
I’m rooting for WAY more people than I ever have done in past seasons – their policy of devoting many more hours to the audition process appears to have paid off. If I lived in the States, I’d be going mad on the phone for hours!

That's true actually, I did have visions of Bon Jovi with Constantine at first, but I think he could carry off modern rock more so than very good. I hadn't heard about him being in Rent but that's very interesting! My mum is adamant that he is the long-haired guy out of Il Divo in disguise. I watched Friday's shows again tonight as I had taped them for my mum and I realised Mario always did have short hair, I was just imagining the dreads, but I do think he should grow some. There are lots of cute boys this year, I think you're definitely right that a boy is gonna win. Last year at this point it was hard to name a boy who would do well (even George, the highest placed boy if I remember correctly, wasn't shown much until the live shows) yet now it's the total reverse. The most memorable girl is probably Mikalah who I just can't stand, although I do think Carrie and Nadia will do well and I really like Vonzelle. Jessica

According to betting in the uk:
Carrie 7/2 Mario 4/1 Anwar 4/1
The three clear favourites. Im putting money on Mario but also Nadia at 20/1 and vonzell at 25/1.

Mikelah is now doing my head in so much. She reminded me of a bad drag queen, which isn't too good for a 16 year old girl.
I'm not there with the names yet, but I hope blond trachy boy gets in, as his eyebrows are very expressive, and Anwar, despite murdering Moon River, and the boy who has facial scarring or just acne, and of course Mario with the hats.
Nadia, the Beyonce Girl, the blonde country girl I like, Jenay was good and I like her "blind woman" hands routine. Vonzell was also good.
Ooooh, poor Jenay! Bye bye!!! She looked so nice in green. Oh good, she gets a stay of execution. I'd love it if one day the reject is so emotionally distressed by the decision that they really cannot speak. Struck dumb by failure, so to speak.
That wasn't especially dramatic - how long are they doing these prelims for?

Mikelah is now doing my head in so much. She reminded me of a bad drag queen, which isn't too good for a 16 year old girl. That is such a drag queen song though, it always reminds me of the scene in Romeo & Juliet where Mercutio sings it. I don't like that blonde boy at all. The mention of Clay put me off right away but he is very dull. Kind of a mix of Clay and Jonathan from G4. Eww! I was suprised at Anwar's song choice but he still showed off his voice so it's good. I don't know who you mean with facial scarring - what did he sing? Is he still in? I can only think of Jared who just went and had kind of bad skin. Mario is super-cool and proved he is a total pop star already, as with Nadia who is kind of his female equivalent in this competition I think. The 'Beyonce Girl' is called Aloha Mischaux (sp?) and the blonde country girl is Carrie Underwood. 3 weeks, til there are 6 left of each, who will be our final 12. I like how they've changed the format, it needed a revamp to keep it interesting. I'm really enjoying this series so far. I thought the judges were quite hard on them, especially the boys who I thought were on the whole great. There were a few who were dull but no-one heinously awful in either group. Jessica

I like the new format, but it's sort of less of an achievement to get into the final twelve with this studio preliminary -- I prefer not recognising favourites until the twelve are revealed if you see what I mean.
Last night, I liked Carrie and Vonzelle and wanted to like Aloha and Nadia way more than I actually did based on their preformances. I also liked Celena.
The problem lots of them had last night (and the problem people always, always have in these shows) is that they were all singing the wrong songs. Last night there was Celine, Mariah, Beyonce, Jessica Simpson... million selling voices and songs with so much history that they couldn't compete. Surely anyone who goes onto these shows knows you should never sing a Whitney song because you simply cannot do it justice? Song choice last night was so poor.
Mikala is irritating but I love what dizzie said about about Barbara Streisand crica Funny Girl. I'm finding it endearing and would like to see her in the top twleve just to keep things interesting.
What I thought was brilliant was how cluded up Melinda was about the reality tv element of the show -- she thought she'd been voted off not because she turned in a poor performance but because she's not been shown very much in previous shows. She was probably right, too.
I was working late so I missed the boys.

You could it's more of an achievement cos they have to sing more times and show they're consistent, but on the other hand there's less urgency to stand out as the chance of continuing to the next week is much better. I was the exact opposite! Didn't like Carrie or Vonzelle as much as I thought I would but Aloha surprised me and Nadia was as good as I thought she'd be - she has stage presence and I liked how she mixes soulful and rocky styles, a bit of a female Lenny Kravitz kind of thing. This is so true. I can't remember hearing anyone do a good version of I Wanna Dance With Somebody but someone chooses it in every series. Just NO! Mikala has grown on me a bit, she is looking less revolting - actually quite classy. All the people who went were ones I couldn't remember hearing sing before this week except Judd who I'd seen sing once. They may have been shown a little but they weren't strongly featured or memorable so I wasn't at all surprised by who went, although none of them were particularly bad. I think the singing this year is actually of a very high standard on average although whether there's anyone as amazingly talented vocally as Fantasia I'm unsure. The only one close is Anwar, unless I'm forgetting someone. Jessica

Finally it has started, and thank heavens for Nadia!
I was quite surprised to see Anthony Blond Boy had quite a buff body (nice arms! nice arse!) for a young man with a face like a teenage lesbian.
Don't care who goes really tonight, as long as it isn't Nadia. In fact Nadia to win!
Mario who?

My favourites are Anwar, Nikko and Nadia. All the black soulful ones this year. I also think Jessica, Bo and Vonzell are good. Scott is still scary and Mikalah is painful to listen to when speaking and singing, so I hope those 2 are next to go.
Apparently Mario was always planning to leave. He was supposedly only using AI as promotion for his solo work and left the show so he could get well known enough to have a fair chance of a successful singing career without it having to be on Simon Fuller's terms. He has employed a top lawyer to get him out of the AI legal bindings. How true this is I'm not sure but it does kind of make sense.

Ugh, Constantine. Creepy is the only thing I can think when he appears - it's just "Creepy! Creepy! Creepy!" running through my head from start to finish.
Edit: as well as his stint in Rent, he's apparently been on an episode of Elimidate. "Rocker" my bumcheeks.
