Oh my goodness - what an ending! No way should Jennifer Hudson have gone, she was the best singer tonight. The whole ending played very strangely tonight. When George was told to go to the group that was safe he wasn't told whether it was A or B.He naturally assumed it was the Diva group instead of the below average singers. I was shocked that the ginger idiot even got 1 vote. He's appalling. I'm no fan of Jennifer Hudson but she's been constantly good for the last three weeks and I did assume she had some fans. If that red haired tuneless git gets anywhere near the final three I'll never watch a reality show again! (Till BB5 starts of course!!) I thought the American public had seen sense when they got rid of that dire singer with Dad dancer moves last week but obviously not...

This show just gets stranger and stranger. First JPL gets voted off then the '3 divas' are in the bottom 3 - was Ryan reading his script upside down?

I didn't like him either. He was awful, but not as awul as John Stevens. Argghhhh!!!!! His rendition of Mandy would have brought shame on Gemini. I managed to watch it the whole way through which took real courage on my part, but I had to see it to believe just how bad he could be. George was dreadful too, but I changed channels for him. Watching him be bad isn't as amusing as watching John be bad. The girls were definitely stronger than the boys, but there are only two boys and they are very different to each other which secures them a certain fan-base without needing to do that much special. The judges saying they were terrible only eggs on the deaf grannies who feel sorry for them. George deserves to stay based on his talent, so I'm not going to whinge too much, but John? He's bad each week, and Diana and Jasmine lifted their games so more than ever he deserved to go.
The best three performances were from the bottom three girls, but I do think they are severely hampered by being too similar, and their fans assuming they're safe. I love Jennyfer, I think she's ace and makes me laugh as well as being able to sing. She's also come a long way and has really learnt from the vocal training and experience as a whole. I wanted her to stay so she could keep getting better.
La Toya does have the best voice technically, but she's bloody boring. Now Jennyfer's gone it's Fantasia all the way, but they should keep the kid in the green room, without camera.
Double boo to no Copa Cabana or Could it Be Magic.

John Stevens has to be the WORST contestant on any Idol. I don't think that I have hated anyone on ANY reality tv show, as much as this ginger prick.
So you know what......I hope he wins. If America want fucking tuneless bastards as their American Idol, go right ahead. Thank God I'm British (even though we've got Michelle).
p.s - Randy, should shut the fuck up. How can he not put Lisa Leuschner through to the wildcard show, and claim this program is not a popularity contest, but a talent contest? Dickhead.

Please tell me, John and George Huff haven't gone!! I loved Jon Peter Lewis, he wasn't a great singer, but I loved him! Damn you Americans.

p.s - Randy, should shut the fuck up. How can he not put Lisa Leuschner through to the wildcard show, and claim this program is not a popularity contest, but a talent contest? Dickhead. Or, for that matter, Paula choosing Leah ahead of Suzie Vulaca. Strangely enough, after watching the show on Friday night, I completely get why Fantasia and La Toya were in the bottom 3 (even if I don’t agree why any of them were there). Fantasia, although a brilliant singer and performer, went so completely into ‘church soul’ mode that I found myself a little bemused as to why it was getting such high praise. The first half of the song was brilliant – full of energy and excitement, then she went off into an endless stream of ‘yeah, yeah yeah’s’ and I sort of lost interest (a first for me with a Fantasia performance). It definitely wasn’t her best performance. For La Toya, choosing yet another song where she can belt out notes at full blast and end with a 15 second long note is becoming tedious. There’s absolutely no innovation with her, simply a technically excellent singer (who does absolutely nothing for me). The only person who DEFINITELY didn’t justify her bottom 3 placing was Jennifer, who I’d consider the performance of the night. She was just wonderful and certainly didn’t deserve to go. My personal ranking this week was: 1. Jennifer 2. Diana 3. Fantasia 4. La Toya 5. Jasmine 6. George 7. John Please send John home this week. His performance of Mandy raised the average score of his performances from 'ear bleedingly awful' to 'dreadful', but he's still the worst by a country mile.

I watched it again last night and was bored by Fantasia. It brought a bit of variety to the evening, but at the expense of the melody, and I'm a big fan of singing the melody. I love the whole gospel vibe, but it drifted too much towards pastiche and reminded me of The Blues Brothers. Which is an ace film, but it was a crap bit of it.
La Toya is boring. Technically great, but I hated the bit at the end where she held the note and did that mechanical moving of the microphone thing. It looks so calculated and does nothing for me.
John was crap, and had no emotion in his singing but the wonder of the crapness keeps him a bit interesting.
This week was the first time Diana put in a performance I liked. The direction given to her by Mr Barry (anyone else find that odd?) did wonders for her. She didn't look like she was in a pageant, and if she can keep moving in that direction I may end up liking her. She still can't win, she's too young and needs to mature a lot, without the pressure of being the American Idol.
I hope Jennyfer's fans go to Fantasia and George and I hope George sings well next week.

I was really bemused that Jennifer went, because she very easily gave the best performance of the night. Really, really good. I thought Letoya was probably the second best, but I still didn't think it was her best performance (she was brilliant last week), and I don't think she's as good as Simon makes out. Fantasia bores me. Jasmine and Diana were much better this week, although both John and George were woeful. George has had two awful weeks, and should have at least been in the bottom three for one of these.
My favourites, in order
1. Jennifer 2. Letoya 3. Jasmine 4. Fantasia 5. Diana 6. George 7. John
I think Diana will go next. I wouldn't be surprised if both George and John get into the final three, along with Fantasia.

Some have blamed storms in the Mid-West area causing a power outage so many of Jennifer's fans in her hometown were unable to see the show that night.

But surely if they were the diehard fans that statement suggests they would have voted regardless of whether they saw the show or not?
Unless the storm also took down the phone lines, I suppose.

I just got to watch this last night since I forgot to set the video before I went out on friday. Watching it straight after a Westlife concert, in which they sang Mandy last, made John Stevens sound even worse. He was truely awful. Even I can sing Mandy better than him.
It was rather amusing when George went to stand in the wrong group.
The performance with Manilow was quite strange. It was like he was lord troll and the cointestants had been hypnotised into being his loyal subjects. I think I just have an overactive imagination.

I just been gettin' into this season the last few weeks and I can't belive Miss Jennifer is outta that competition. Girl was damn good! And Miss Fantasia Burrino in the last 3?! John Stevens is just plain weird. You are 16 child, quit actin' like your 46! How America is keepin' his ass in that show I don't know.
Let me tell y'all what I think - 3 black girls, probably the best 3 in the show but they still bottom 3. America don't want another Ruben, they want another Clay. AND Miss Fantasia got her 'lil baby. Young black girl with a baby? American Idol? No, we don't think so, says America.
Some of America sendin' out a message with this show.

The thing is, all this might feasibly be true if the public were voting for the person they want to leave, but how is it possible for someone voting 100, even 200 times for John, Diana or Jasmine to know that by doing this they’re going to get one of the divas eliminated (especially when the total number of votes is in the region of 24 million)? The truth is that voters got complacent with regards to Jennifer, Fantasia and La Toya. They’ve heard week after week the praises lavished on all three and simply assumed that they’d still be there next week. Diana and Jasmine were in the bottom 3 the week before and their fans knew they were in danger this week. Additionally, John and George have actual solid fan bases who will vote no matter what – poor performance or good (mostly poor in both these guys’ cases).
Maybe for a small (bigoted) minority they don’t want a black winner, or Asian winner or single mother winner, but considering the audience numbers that AI pulls in, I find it hard to believe that these groups are having any real effect on the outcome. Jennifer didn’t deserve to go, and her fans should rightly be wringing their hands, but the truth is that there weren’t enough of them voting hard on the night for her to survive. I’m gonna miss her.

You just know that John Stevens is one of those mummy's boy's. I'm sure his mum has told him that he has a great voice and he's believed it, when really, he's shit.
Jennifer was, without a doubt, the best on the night. The sheer power of her voice, just gave me chills (the only singers that EVER give me chills are Brian McKnight, Whitney Houston in the good days, and Xtina). I know everyone says this when someone is voted out, but I REALLY do hope that she gains a career in music out of this.

This weeks performances:
Fantasia Barrino - Get On Your Feet George Huff - Live For Loving You Latoya London - Rhythm Is Gonna Get You John Stevens - Music of My Heart Jasmine Trias - Here We Are Diana Degarmo - Turn The Beat Around
Apparently Latoya named John as the best dancer, while everyone else chose her.

Pah. Where's their sense of adventure?
If I was on American Idol (or indeed Pop Idol), I'd make a point of doing songs like that, just for the hell of it.

Apparently Latoya named John as the best dancer, while everyone else chose her. And if you didn’t think La Toya was a bitch before…. That’s really mean. Everyone knows that John’s a dreadful dancer (including John). It’s like LaToya saying ‘well if I can’t pick myself, I’ll pick the one that people will obviously know isn’t the best’. Someone made an interesting observation of last week’s results show. When The Divas were standing in the bottom 3 and La Toya was the first to be called back to safety, she never hugged or even acknowledged the other 2, thus breaking the first rule of TV talent competitions – ‘Even if you want to scratch your competitor’s eyes out, pretend to make nice on the TV’!

At last! Hmmm who is going to be my leas favourite now... I think it will have to be Latoya. Big Band week next week. I think Diana will do well in this one. LaToya's always been my least favourite - even when people like Moron Matt were still in the competition. Diana should do a Zoe-esque 'Get Happy'. It's spunky, vaguely nondescript with semi-religious lyrics that’ll sit well with her target audience, plus she can belt it like Judy Garland! It’s a shame Poor John didn’t get to Big Band week. On the other hand, can you imagine him either a) blasting the hell out of the competition, finally proving his worth and cruising into Top 4 or b) doing his very best performance and being eliminated? Either way would have been an excuse for the more hysterical viewer to get even more hysterical about the way the competition was turning out. Watch out for LaToya turning whatever song she’s given into a power ballad. Make her stop. Now.

Watch out for LaToya turning whatever song she’s given into a power ballad. Make her stop. Now. That whole thing is addressed on this week's show, where she sings in a different style. This is in case you haven't seen the Estefan episode yet, of course. If you have, then you've just made a silly point.

Not seen the Estefan episode yet (on tonight in UK). Guess Gloria didn't turn in too many power ballads for them to do.
I'll hold off my opinions until afterwards.

The latin week was bad. Diana was best I thought, followed by (I hate to say it) Latoya. The rest were awful.
Is it next week they start doing 2 songs each?

THANK GOD! He's gone. Music Of My Heart had to be John's worst (yes, even worse than Elton John week) performance. Flat. Monotonic. Tunless. Sounded like a muppet from Sesame Street.
Did anyone see on the results show when John went for a high note, the camera cut to Jasmine "crying"*, hiding her face from laughing? Funny!
*Why the fuck were they crying!?! Did they want John to win the competition? I mean I can understand some of them crying when Jennifer went, but it was John "I'm in this competition on borrowed time" Stevens.

I think they were all crying because from now on, whoever leaves the competition will not have family and friends and the entire nation saying "how on earth could they go while that awful John Stevens is still screeching". Each week all the others knew there would always be someone worse than them. A lot worse.
La Toya is now my new most hated singer. To be fair, I've never liked her much, but she deserved to be there unlike John. And I did see her singing Gloria Estafan, but I didn't like it. I agreed with what Simon said about it showing her do more variety, but it still looked cold in my not particularly humble opinion. After a couple of good weeks I'm definitely warming to Diana. Vocally, she was less perfect last night than she was in some earlier rounds when I hated her, but that's a good thing. I believe it's her personality now, and she is moving steadily away from the High School pageant thing. She's got a long way to go and I still don't want her to win, but I'm rooting for her.
