I had a hunch something outrageous was about to happen when Ryan opened the show with "Welcome to the most unpredictable show on television", or something.
Oh I do love a bit of melodrama! Much like tonight's loser, I suspect.
And can I just say, having been watching videos of Miss Clarkson's AI appearances, she is far and away the biggest talent that show has ever produced.
Can I also say, that Donna Summer has an incredibly long face.
Edit: Also, Simon, it's not 'undoubtably'.

Two weeks ago I got my days of the week mixed up and read who went out in here, last week I promised myself I'd not come in this thread, then my great cunning and intellect guessed right having seen the title, and this week - while I was avoiding this whole forum to be on the safe side - they only went and announced who went on Radio 1. They did say to divert your ears if you didn't want to know, but they'd already made it clear it was a big upset and diverting your ears from the radion when you are driving isn't always that easy.

I haven't been following any series of American Idol, so I don't know what sort of reception the person who got voted off (I can't remember if she's been named yet, I don't want to spoil it for anyone) has had, but I watched the results show tonight and I was flabbergasted. The person who came fourth in this series had what seemed to me like a million times more presence, charisma and talent than any of the final 12 from Pop Idol 2.

She was good, and probably the best technical singer of them all, but I just don't think people liked her just like loads of people didn't like Rosie on PI even though she was good (except Abba week).
She was probably the best technical singer I've seen from any Idols series, but I'd still take someone like Suzanne with her bum notes over her any day. The judges would say each week how poised she is, which is good in small amounts, but week after week of poised, mechanical singing is boring. I didn't want her to win, but there is no way Jasmine deserved to stay after all her bum notes last night. She's boring too, but is personality personified next to La Toya and more importantly there is a warmth to her. Crying at the judges comments helped too. Very Laura, bless. Add in SC predicting she'll go home, for a few extra grannie votes. You'd think he'd have learnt after Mark!
And just how long did that results show last? I'm not surprised they aren't worried about Diana being too young any more - she's aged 12 years.
The finals had better be Fantasia and Diana with Fantasia to win.
Clay can just piss off altogether.

Fantasia I love. She has a voice like Randy Crawford. I'm surprised they've not had her sing 'One Day I'll Fly Away' or 'Almaz!' Diana may be young but looks so old. She has an air of Clare Sweeny/Jane McDonald about her, poor thing.

I have yet to see the results show due to someone changing the channel while it was taping grrr.
Jasmine really shouldve gone. She was not good. You would think people wouldve learnt by now that sympathy voting is not good and it only makes for a crap idol.

Funniest moment of the night: In the audience, LaToya's ancient grandmother - in red leather 80s Dynasty outfit - being hoisted out of the chair to applaud! She probably didn't even know where she was!

This week they get to perform a song of their own choice, one chosen by the judges and one chosen by Clive Davis.
Jasmine Trias
Her choice: "Saving All My Love For You" Judge's choice: "Mr.Melody" Clive's choice: "All By Myself."
Fantasia Barrino
Her choice: "Chain Of Fools," Judge's choice: "Fool In Love" Clive's choice: "The Greatest Love Of All,"
Diana Degarmo
Her choice: "Ain't No Moutain High Enough." Judge's choice: "Because You Loved Me." Clive's choice: "Don't Cry Out Loud"

I'm sorry but I definitely won't be able to watch this performance without thinking of 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' and the anorexic beauty queen and her nurse lip-synching it!

Anyone know what the winner's single will be yet? I am hoping it will be better than some of the songs they have been coming up with to perform week in, week out.
Jasmine must go this week. If she doesnt the American public are fools.

Diana may be young but looks so old. She has an air of Clare Sweeny/Jane McDonald about her, poor thing. I hope everyone saw the segment where the three remaining ladies went to the psychic? The charlatan psychic immediately told Diana that she was "an old soul." etc. etc. etc. She does have a bit of Clare Sweeny in her, doesn't she? Bless. This week's show gave me a headache. Statistically, Fantasia and Diana are in a dead heat with FB getting 4.11 million votes and DDG getting 4.15. Jasmine will go this week. I expect another Clay/Ruben vote re-count scandal.

If Clive had any decency he'd have rounded off Fantasia's selection with Ship of Fools. Fool.
Even better, a mega-mix of Ship of Fools and Chains of Love.

Nobody was surprised by the departure this week, and for once no tears from Paula.
Why does the final have to be TWO HOURS?
Last night Guy Sebastian (aka Aussie Idol) sang and was dreadful. Tamyra Gray sang and was dreadful. Who can they dredge up for the finale?
I'm Tivo'ing it anyway, since I suddenly have a life.

Kelly Clarkson, that's who! And she's going to be several shades of fabulous.
Tamyra was rubbish! Her vocals on Season 1 were outstanding, however, so I still have a certain amount of hope for the album, despite the fact that 'Raindrops Will Fall' was muck the first time she sang it, and remains so now.
I loved Jasmine's 'Saving All My Love For You'.

I loved Jasmine's 'Saving All My Love For You'. I liked it, too. By that point in the competition, however, there was nothing Jasmine could do to win over the judges. I can't quite believe Tamyra co-wrote the winner's single. It's going to be bad - I can feel it in my bones. And now the finale feat. Kelly Clarkson - again. More shrieking! More odd facial expressions! I would PREFER Michelle McManus, personally. Has she sued 19 or BMG yet? They fucked her over so awfully.

While I accept that One Voice from the AI2 finale wasn't Kelly's finst moment, the stripped-down piano version of Beautiful Disaster she'll be singing this year is wonderfully arranged and actually delivered with a certain amount of - gasp! - restraint. Bitch better not let me down. Can you elaborate re: 19 fucking her over? I've heard about her having the most restrictive contract in recording history, but have no juicy details to ponder.

I've just watched this, and if I'm honest, am quite disappointed as to how the US show is going. The whole thing is so biased towards Fantasia, and if I'm honest, I thought she was deadly dull tonight. Diana gave the best single performance - her last song was outstanding. But I really thought Jasmine was the best overall performer of the night, and it just seemed like the judges were determined to crticize her, cos they already knew who they wanted in the final. Both the 'Saving All My Lovge For You' and 'All By Myself' were good - much better than Fantasia thinking she's in church and flapping her arms about YET AGAIN.

I want Diana to win. However, if she does I cant help but wonder if the judges will piss on her parade because they so obviously want Fantasia to win.
I think Fantasia is good but she is an ego maniac and after a couple of songs I get bored of her. I couldnt listen to a whole album of her.
Diana, I find quite fascinating. She is an excellent singer for her age and I think she has major potential. I can see a Christina type evolvement from her in a couple of years time. I like the fact that she is so American. Go Diana! If I lived in America I would vote but since I dont I will cross my fingers.

I'm finding I like Diana more and more and Fantasia less and less. Fantasia is still brilliant and in many ways still pissed on Diana from a great height, but she has her flaws too and listening to the judges unreserved ravings is too much when they are still muted for Diana.
Diana's third song last night was the best performance of the evening and a lot of credit must go to song choice, but she still sang it brilliantly. Yes, she sometimes confuses shouting for singing well, and yes, she's often lacking in 'uniqueness', except that when she sings well she sings well. Fantasia has a great voice and loads of character and star quality to her, but her inability to hold a note without very annoying vibrato is becoming more apparent.
'Saving All My Love' is not a song that Fantasia should sing, but comparing that performance with Diana's last song it was clear Diana can hit the notes better and deserves more credit than to be told to thank the man who chose the song.
I'm undecided on who should win. In many ways both deserve to win, but both could benefit from coming second. Fantasia's ego is at risk of going mad, through no fault of her own, but I fear that even if the public place her second in the voting, she's be subjected to so much 'you were cheated' it won't help. She is brilliant and still my favourite, but she could improve and is more likely to do so if she can continue to take advice.
Diana could suffer in the media if she wins for stealing it from the more credible Fantasia which would be a shame and I imagine critics queuing up to list reasons why she didn't deserve to win rather than what it was that took her that far. Her age is important too. They keep debating whether or not she's too young. Too young for what exactly? I'm not sure, as she's already good and already quite mature, but in another couple of years time she'll be a lot better, professionally and emotionally, so I think she would benefit from that little bit extra breathing space.
In conclusion, Fantasia to win with 55% and RCA to let her release decent material that suits her style, and not to even consider a head to head chart release like they did last time.

Jasmine sang Saving All My Love, did you mean Greatest Love of All?
While I think she might win, I don't see Diana having a career at all. She has none of the international potential of Miss Clarkson, doesn't have as interesting a voice as Kelly, and is nowhere near as endearing as the winner of Season 1.
Turns out it's not definite that KC will be singing Beautiful Disaster on finale night. I'm quite worried about this now.
FYI, E! are showing two hours of red carpet stuff at the finale Wednesday night 11pm-1am UK time.

What's this? Is it the riffing/Gospel jaw?
Fantasia's only flaw to her voice is that, when she goes for those power notes, it can sound screechy. With that said, Fantasia has nothing to worry about. She'll walk this. How do I know? Well firstly, she's a brilliant performer and singer, secondly, she has to win because of race. There has been a white female singer (Kelly), a white male (Clay), a black male (Ruben) and they need a black female. This is why the judges have tatically pinpoited Fantasia (and LaToya).
It's just simple common sense.

She has the chops, she has the attitude, and she has the potential to do some storming anthems. It is very difficult to judge the contestants when they are forced to do karaoke every week, but Fantasia certainly is the only contestant this year with a personality to match her talent. I am pissing to see what they do with original* songs on the finale. *original, meaning a cover of a European single, most likely.

Can you elaborate re: 19 fucking her over? I've heard about her having the most restrictive contract in recording history, but have no juicy details to ponder. Once again I've based my opinion on hear'say and gossip, but from what I hear not only was Michelle signed to a contract the basically made her a soulless pop drone but insiders whisper that there was never any real intent on the part of her management to promote her. I know that will shock nobody. There is more to this story, but we need a real insider to deliver the details! I hope Diana wins, but suspect you all are right in saying it will be Fantasia. I get a weird ruthless vibe off FB suddenly, but it's probably just ambition. I'm glad to hear about Kelly Clarkson's "stripped-down piano version of 'Beautiful Disaster'" - it may surprise in a good way. She suddenly looks like she's lot quite a lot of weight, too. Hope it's not cocaine!
