Diana needs to learn some more facial expressions. The "Smile, you're on tv" look is getting boring.
Admittedly she's probably been made to practice it since the age off 4, but she just looks so groomed.
Watching them all made me appreciate just how good Gloria used to be though.

Watching them all made me appreciate just how good Gloria used to be though. That was painfully obvious. In fairness to most of them, they were attempting a genre they'd never tried before and singing songs that were honed by Gloria and the band by repeated performances. They developed their style to suit their abilities over a number of years. If they had to come back next week to try something similar they'd all be a lot better. Adding insult to injury for John, did anyone else notice that he wasn't allowed to sing a solo line when they did their group number? The closest he got was a two-parter with Fantasia. I can only assume the American press focused on his shiteness when debating Jennyfer's exit, which is why Simon (correctly) said he shouldn't feel guilty for getting so far. The people voting - yes, but not him.

I am not just basing this on the Gloria Estefan week, but is it just me or are none of them very good? Diana and Jasmine are bland girls with a bland voice. No sex appeal at all. George has no vocal talent at all and again absolutely no sex appeal. LaToya is OK, but that's all. Fantasia is the only one who gets pass marks. I said last year Clay and Ruben were good but not great, but both of them would wipe the floor with this lot.

I watched this week's show cringing from behind a cushion! Felt really bad for John Stevens as his performance must have had dogs howling all over the States. Then to add insult to injury, when you're thrown out you have to sing the same song over again! I think even the comment about singing it for his grandma was too 'Hallmark' for the audience these days. (The poor woman won't ever be able to go back to bingo after that rendition). It just made him look like an even bigger virgin than he is. For older readers of on this subject, John's voice reminded me a lot of Peter Skellen! And despite them saying he was best at 'rat pack' stuff he would probably only have shone during an unprecedented Brass Band week or the Songs of Victoria Wood!

Jenny Frost week?
I didn't watch much of AI2, but enough to know Clay is better than John, but not as good as George, or a patch on the likes of Fantasia, but I never liked him much. I always liked Rueben, but I'm not keen on his material, in particular the way he removed the life from Flying Without Wings and made Westlife look brilliant.

is it just me or are none of them very good? I'm suddenly so disillusioned with this season! I no longer really care who wins or who loses. I'm not sure I can stomach this week's Big Band episode, especially without John Stevens, who was fucking dreadful but could probably carry this week. Speaking of, I saw an interview with his mother last night where she said he had received repeated death threats and is now under 'protection.' !

I just KNOW that Jasmine will leave this week. Like both series of PI, my favourite always comes fifth, and leaves in big band week - Susanne, Hayley.....
It is my curse....

Performances: Diana DeGarmo"Get Happy" Yep, I predicted she’d do this one. Are you serious? How does a Queen rock’n’roll song fit in the Big Band theme? God, could Jasmine consistently pick any duller songs? I know they’re well know, but she needs to go this week.

Are you serious? How does a Queen rock’n’roll song fit in the Big Band theme? Is that the only song with that title? But Queen... well they WERE a big band, maybe not in the genre definition though, but still they were big! I thinking I'm looking into this too much by Latoya picking Dont Rain On My Parade - is she trying to say shes going to win this and no one better spoil it for her?? Im so glad John Stevens went last week. I couldnt bear him singing one song never mind him getting to sing ttwo.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's noticed Paula's (even more) weird behaviour. Last week she giggled like a lunatic, throughout the show. She'll be straight to Betty Ford when the season's over. She's losing it. On 'Entertainment Tonight' where she does a special American Idol segment some nights, she was completely bizarre, and was crying like a little girl during the John Stevens interview. She kept saying, "Nobody can take your talent away from you. NOBODY!" etc. etc. etc. It was paintful to watch. I predict she 'admits' to an addiction to painkillers brought on by the botched manicure.

Leaving an all-girl final 4. This has NEVER happened before in any of the Pop Idol shows around the world, in fact I don't think there's even been an all-girl final 2 before. This should eb interesting... Can't believe I know this ...... but there has. It was the Arab Idol finale with 2 girls, and the wonderful Diana, (who appeared on World Idol) won. I think it gives a very different dynamic to the final few weeks when there are only girls left. No one can claim the teenage girl vote in quite the same way (all the girls, except maybe LaToya, can now claim to have teen appeal - Diana's perky and clean cut, Jasmine's sweet and girly, Fantasia's sassy and urban. All these girls can stake a claim in the youth votes available to them now George has gone). Simon was spot on when he called it a 'Diva Battle' - he just picked the wrong combination of divas.

I think this is really interesting.
19/BMG etc are obviously hoping for a big Fantasia/LaToya standoff, but I have a sneaking suspicion, and I don't really know why, that a Fantasia/Diana final may be more likely.
I don't see the appeal in her myself, but for some reason I can't see Jasmine or LaToya reaching the final. LaToya is an amazing singer, but i don't think she has enough personality to reach the final. And I think that although Jasmine has the best pop star potential out of the lot, she's a bit too 'sweet' to go the distance. Diana, whilst not being particularly great, will appeal to those that think that bellowing very loudly makes someone a good singer.

Another tearful farewell. Another round of hugs. Goodbye, George. Take some comfort that UPN now plan to broacast "The Wiz" in your honor.
I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see a Fantasia/Diana duel. Or LaToya/Diana if America's ugly Puritanical streak rears its ugly head to kick Fantasia's single-mom ass out the door.

Yeah, that needs to stop.
I cannot WAIT for the final, but don't care who's in it. Because it will feature the spectacular return of Miss Kelly Clarkson, who will be performing the gorgeous acoustic version of Beautiful Disaster, which was already a great song, and is now a fucking amazing one.
Am I over-selling?

My predictions are:
Jasmine will leave next week, followed by LaToya the week after, leaving a Diana v Fantasia final.
Ooh its disco night next week. I think Diana and Fantasia will do well and the other 2, well, wont do so well.

Diana, whilst not being particularly great, will appeal to those that think that bellowing very loudly makes someone a good singer. She's no Kelly Clarkson!! Having not watched the show, I'm quite confused now, because these two comments seem to contradict each other...

Kelly's bellowing is far more outrageous than Diana's.
Any clearer?

Kelly does bellow, but she's an awesome singer. Diana isn't even in the same league, which makes me scared that she might win.
I think she's easily the weakest of the four left in.
I feel a bit sorry for Jasmine. She has lovely, understated voice. She's the only one of the three girls that isn't a bellower, and this seems to be going against her. Even the judges seem to think that those that sing the loudest, sing the best.....
I mean, c'mon, Fantastia's good and all. But she has a very harsh tone......

Diana, whilst not being particularly great, will appeal to those that think that bellowing very loudly makes someone a good singer. That sums up the biggest flaw with encouraging the public to vote for 'talent' because they try to measure talent by easy to measure things and bellowing loudly or holding a note for five minutes is held up as a reason why they deserve to get votes over that person who sings more softly, but had character, or an actual enjoyable tone to their voice. Jasmin is suffering from not bellowing as loudly as the others, but she has a pretty powerful voice by non American Idol standards and a nice tone. I'm beginning to find her a bit boring and too sweet, but I much prefer her vocally to Diana and even La Toya. On paper I should prefer La Toya as she doesn't hit bum notes, she holds them all day and has range and power. She's pretty, she's determined - but in spite of having all those qualities I don't like her much. I am rooting for Fantasia to win. She has the emotional maturity to cope, a big, powerful voice and is great on paper, but more importantly she's great in real life. I wondered if John had been getting abuse. Everyone at AI was getting very defensive towards him in the last couple of weeks and being out of his depth was not his fault. I felt sorry for George going too, he seemed a sweetie and has a talent, but was dull on Big Band and shite the previous two weeks. My hope is that his fans will go on to become Fantasia, or possibly Diana fans. He was quirky and a good laugh, and personality-wise Fantasia should appeal to the same people.

Apparently Diana is the best on the night according to the judges, followed by Fantasia.
I want Diana to win. Fantasia will get a deal regardless of whether she wins or not I think. La Toya will probably do well on Broadway, and Jasmine I just dont think is up to it.

This show suddenly completely insane!
For me, tonight's result was truly unexpected. I'll not give anything away, but by the end of the show I thought they were going to have to airlift Paula out of the studio by helicopter. She had a true breakdown when the 'loser' was notifed.
(sorry for the spoiler title the other week - I learned my lesson!)
